Wow. The beef dishes were excellent. Top quality. Service was also good and the somen was very memorable. Glad we found a new place in HCM!

IWA Japanese Yakiniku - Japanese restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
IWA Japanese Yakiniku occupies a standout address on Trần Ngọc Diện, where a garden entrance and enormous stone dining tables signal something more deliberate than a standard yakiniku spot. The interior draws from both Japanese and Middle Eastern design sensibilities — an unexpected pairing that lands as genuinely striking, with a layout that accommodates open seating alongside private dining rooms suited to confidential conversations or celebrations.
The kitchen's strength is its sourcing: Hitachi-area wagyu, otoro, and fresh seafood form the backbone of a menu ordered through tableside iPads. Staff conduct the grilling at the table with running commentary on each cut — a detail that adds considerably to the experience at this price point. The snow salad surprises most first-timers and has accumulated a quiet following among regulars. Garlic seafood rice and somen anchor the supporting dishes alongside the meat program, with the tongue stew drawing the kind of enthusiasm usually reserved for the wagyu itself.
Set menus run around 2.5 million VND, covering sashimi selections alongside multiple wagyu cuts. Portions reflect premium sourcing rather than volume, and the price sits at the higher end of Thao Dien's Japanese dining options — a distinction worth noting for groups expecting large plates. The pork shoulder and salmon sashimi consistently earn recommendations from guests across multiple visits.
The clientele skews toward expats and international visitors seeking a restaurant equipped for business meals or celebratory dinners without feeling overstated. Service is attentive enough that walk-ins have been accommodated despite the room filling reliably during dinner sittings. A 4.8 rating across more than 200 reviews points to execution that holds across visits rather than peaking on good nights.
Reviews
Excellent Japanese restaurant & bbq. Everything I had was delicious. The service was top notch too. I recommend the pork shoulder & the salmon sashimi. Price to quality ratio is very good
Had dinner here. Very good table service. Nice staff. Good vibes.
Had a great time in a resort-like atmosphere and professional table side service. They have open areas and private dining room. Good for both casual and business meals. Fresh ingredients and tasty food, along with professional services. Special call out on the otoro and garlic seafood rice from me and A5 wagyu beef by my wife. The restaurant is a bit on the pricey side but the orders and prices are calculated in the iPad when you order.
The restaurant's decoration is quite striking, with a luxurious and friendly Japanese and Middle Eastern style. The grilled items here are very special, and the staff provides table-side service and detailed descriptions of them. One dish that really stood out was the "Snow Salad"; I believe it was my first time trying it, and I found it quite unique. The restaurant has a spacious and very clean atmosphere, and the staff is very welcoming. Once again, I really enjoyed the view and the overall perfection of the place. I'll be back.
