Cool place, especially for pictures with Landmark 81 as the backdrop. The view alone already makes it worth a visit. They also have live music with someone playing instruments, which adds a nice vibe to the evening. Service is very good and attentive. The atmosphere is lively and stylish, though it would be even better if the lights were a bit dimmer to make it feel more intimate. Food is alright, nothing bad but not the main highlight either. Overall, this feels like a place people come to for the ambiance, service, live music, and photos rather than specifically for the food.

Hoshiyo Dining Lounge - Japanese restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Hoshiyo Dining Lounge has built a quiet reputation as the city's go-to proposal venue, and the setting makes the case without much argument. Positioned in Thao Dien with an unobstructed night view of Landmark 81, the restaurant draws couples, birthday celebrants, and anniversary dinners in consistent rotation. Soft lighting, elegant furniture, and live instrumental music define the interior — a deliberate contrast to the louder rooftop bars that dominate the neighborhood's after-dark scene.
The kitchen runs a Japanese fusion menu anchored by fresh sushi and sashimi, wagyu steak, and beef Wellington served for two. Crowd favorites include the bacon salad, steak and prawn combination, and lamb chops, while the matcha mochi closes out meals on a reliable note. The 1,890,000 VND set menu for two has drawn repeated praise for delivering value that surprises guests bracing for full fine-dining prices. The restaurant also accommodates pre-ordered cakes from outside patisseries — a detail regulars booking birthday tables tend to appreciate.
Reservations are taken via Instagram, and the team communicates closely on special occasion requests, arranging setups around specific table preferences and surprise elements. Service quality draws divided opinions across the reviews — attentiveness and warmth varies by evening — though kitchen consistency earns stronger marks. The 4.9-star average across nearly 4,700 Google reviews reflects a crowd that returns primarily for the ambience and the dependable execution of key dishes.
Among Thao Dien's Japanese dining options, Hoshiyo occupies the fine-dining tier without the formality that often accompanies it. The view and atmosphere carry significant weight in the overall experience, a factor worth accounting for when visiting solely for the food or on an evening when the skyline is obscured.
Reviews
A Japanese restaurant serving Jap fusion food. Price at the high side but come with good presentation and taste. The restaurant come with a great view of Landmark 81. Please make reservations.
Good food, especially the bacon salad and steak & prawn. Lamb chops are good too. Vibrant environment with nice view. Waiter, Phat, is super friendly tentative. Recommended.
Had such a lovely birthday dinner at Hoshiyo ✨ I made my reservation via Instagram and the team communicated so well with what I wanted for my birthday. They even received my pre-ordered cake from Pema Patisserie 🫶🏻 I originally wanted to try the beef Wellington, but since it’s for two persons, they suggested the wagyu steak instead… and it turned out to be the best steak I’ve had so far!! The sushi sashimi were incredibly fresh, and the matcha mochi was the perfect ending 🤍 🤍 Special thanks to Quang for being so friendly and attentive ☺️ he made my solo birthday dinner feel really comfortable and special. Truly enjoyed the whole experience 🤍
The view was stunning, and definitely made this restaurant a highlight. The decoration was also great. The food however was seemingly lack luster. We had got the 2nd combo and it was alright, nothing crazy really stood out and it was mediocre. The steak was overcooked and chewy, the miso soup was flavorless, and the crab spaghetti was way too creamy and the fish eggs really overtook the flavor. The service was also extremely poor. The first server we had was extremely nice and considerate, but afterwards we had to constantly ask for waiters to come by to help us like for the bill and ask for utensils. They seemed like they did not want to serve us and were not friendly and weren’t even really smiling. Overall, decorations and the view made this place.
