Dotori Dining - Japanese restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Dotori Dining sits inside one of the quieter alleys branching off Thao Dien's main strip, operating seven days a week from midday through early evening. With 765 Google reviews and a 4.4 rating, it has built a consistent reputation among the neighborhood's residents — the kind of place that fills during the lunch hour and sees a steady dinner crowd without ever tipping into chaos.
Thao Dien has no shortage of Japanese options, but Dotori's alley address puts it slightly apart from the louder, higher-traffic corridor. The hẻm setting keeps foot traffic intentional — people arrive because they've been before or because someone sent them the address directly. Hours that close at 9 PM signal a kitchen focused on quality service windows rather than late-night volume.
For expats and long-term residents looking for reliable Japanese cooking outside the city center's premium-priced dining rooms, this part of District 2 offers an alternative that doesn't require crossing a bridge. The rating sustained across a substantial number of reviews suggests the kitchen delivers with enough consistency to earn repeat visits rather than one-off curiosity traffic.
The restaurant draws a mix of neighborhood regulars and visitors staying in the surrounding residential streets. Without the fanfare of a main-road location, Dotori Dining has earned its standing through repetition rather than spectacle — the clearest signal being a review count that continues to grow steadily.

Reviews
Cozy and nice little restaurant hidden in a Thao Dien alley. Food is nice, really polite staff, food didn’t take long that long either
March 12th, 2026 - This was my first time dining at Dotori Dining Thao Dien, and it was such a lovely experience. The restaurant is located inside a quieter alley in Thao Dien, so at first it was somewhat hard to find the parking lot because it’s at the end of the road. But once I got there, the warm and cozy atmosphere made it feel worth the visit. I tried the Tornado Omelette Rice, and it was definitely a highlight. The omelette was beautifully made, soft, and silky, with a rich flavor that paired perfectly with the rice. It looked impressive when served, but what I enjoyed most was how comforting and satisfying it tasted from the first bite to the last. The service was also sincere and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, Dotori Dining Thao Dien left a great first impression on me, and I would happily come back again.
Every dish we had was decent. I especially love the maze noodles with green onion. However I wish there was more options with protein. Almost every dish was deep fried and the oil wasn’t properly drained so it was very heavy. The tempura donburi didn’t come with any sauce, which is a strange omission because tempuras always have a light soy sauce dipping sauce. The dish was basically rice, an onsen egg and deep fried tempura. Lastly, the rice wooden chairs / bench are very uncomfortable. The resto should get some cushions
I had the chicken curry, the sauce was nice a bit different from what I’m used to there’s a tomatoey taste to it but I didn’t mind that. The chicken was delicious and went well with the rice and sauce. I had to wait for 20 minutes which is fine it was pretty busy so I recommend getting a reservation for this place rather than walking in.
