The meat quality is poor, with fat making up about 40%. The staff are unable to respond to customers’ needs, resulting in poor service. I recommend going to another branch or a nearby yakiniku restaurant instead—don’t waste your time

Gyu Shige - Ngưu Phồn - Japanese restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Gyu Shige occupies a compact space inside Sachi Garden on Võ Nguyên Giáp, drawing a loyal crowd of meat-focused diners who return specifically for the wagyu. The yakiniku format — raw cuts brought to the table for grilling over a built-in grate — is the entire point here, and the kitchen backs it up with fresh accompaniments including vegetables that reviewers single out for quality. Pricing sits noticeably above the Thao Dien average, a fact regulars accept without much debate given the wagyu on offer. The room is small and fills up, so large groups may find it tight; the intimate scale suits pairs more than parties. Service pace draws occasional criticism for being slow during busy shifts, though staff are consistently described as polite and fluent in English — a practical advantage in a neighborhood with a high expat density. The split-session hours (lunch closes at 2 PM, dinner runs until 11 PM) give it more flexibility than many Japanese spots nearby, and the kitchen doesn't push tables out quickly. Compared to the Korean BBQ concepts clustered in the same stretch, Gyu Shige positions itself on cut quality rather than value; diners who arrive expecting a budget yakiniku experience tend to leave disappointed, while those who come for the wagyu specifically tend to leave satisfied.
Reviews
Good quality meat, perfect for grilling. Very good menu with variety of meat perfect for quality grilling. Fresh veggies as well. We loved the meat especially wagyu, satisfying. Service could be slow but staff are polite and speak English well so communication was smooth. Ambiance is okay, not much seating . Closes late which is good and they don’t rush you jn ordering.
Terrible Service !!!! Waiters laughing not working . I asked many times for one thing but instead of bringing food they removed it !!Added many items to my bill !!!!! DISAPPOINTED!!!Never come back !!!! Food average better to go to Korean bbq next to it do not come !! Value for money not good !!!
We came here for lunch and the food was amazing, service was pretty good and atmosphere was not bad. I'd definitely come back and recommend it.
