Lovely service + amazing food. Been a customer since when they was still on Mac Dinh Chi. The quality has never changed. Always recommended!

Ebisu District 2 - Udon noodle restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Ebisu District 2 has been running the same kitchen since its earlier Mac Dinh Chi location, and longtime regulars note that the quality has held. The move to Song Hành in Bình Trưng Đông brought more space but no change in the core offering — handmade udon produced fresh to order, a process that distinguishes it from most Japanese restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City that source pre-made noodles.
The menu covers a wider range than the udon focus suggests: sashimi, yakitori, rice dishes, and both hot and cold udon preparations. The fried udon is the kitchen's most discussed item — a crunchy texture that is genuinely unusual, paired with a dipping sauce that carries the saltiness the noodle alone cannot. The yakitori chicken rice functions as the restaurant's comfort anchor, drawing repeat visits on its own. Sashimi draws consistent marks for freshness, with some diners drawing comparisons to Japanese standards in how the fish is cut and laid over rice.
The space runs across two floors. The ground level is better suited for guests with mobility concerns, as the upper floor — which doubles as a smoking area — requires climbing a staircase. A call bell at each table makes flagging staff straightforward during busy services, when response times tend to slow. Reservations are practical, especially for weekend evening sittings or larger parties.
BBQ selections and the drinks list sit in the background here — serviceable rather than notable. The draw is the udon and sashimi pairing, which gives Ebisu District 2 a clearer identity than many Thao Dien Japanese spots that spread across too many categories. Closed Mondays; weekday lunch ends at 2 PM with dinner service resuming at 5 PM.
Reviews
Eat here if you wish to bathe in food odors. Eat sashimi if you wish to know that fish are not very fresh. Stirred fried udon is very oily and salty. Not recommended.
Yakitori chicken rice is the ultimate comfort food! Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and so satisfying. 5 stars for everything! 🫶🏻😊
Do not come here for the udon! Though this place has its own menu for udon with so many kinds, the taste just sucks. The broth lacks everything an udon should offer. Other dishes, specifically, the sashimi, are fine. The staff that days were kinda dull. The one who welcomed us initially suggested that we come to the upper floor (which is smoking area) awaring that I'm pregnant. The one who served our table was slow, and missed 1 plate from our order.
Not even pearl or round rice - don’t say Japanese rice is served. This Restaurant must be hiring many TikTokers and GenZ GenAlpha to boost promotions.
