Buddha Bar Thao Dien is always my go-to place whenever I’m in Thao Dien. The vibe never disappoints, relaxed, warm, and familiar, and it honestly reminds me of Irish pubs back in New Jersey with the wooden floors and laid-back atmosphere. It’s the kind of spot you can drop into without overthinking it. My usual order is a Tiger draught, cold and easy to drink. For food, the spring rolls are consistently good, and the patatas bravas are a favorite too. Simple comfort food, good drinks, and a place I keep coming back to.

Buddha Bar - Bar & grill in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City

About This Place
Few Thao Dien bars stay open until 4 AM seven nights a week while also offering a legitimately good Indian menu — that combination is what sets Buddha Bar apart from the neighborhood's typical expat watering holes. The space is generous, with wooden floors and a front section that stays airy and relaxed, while the back room picks up energy on weekends. Two pool tables, a dartboard, and a shuffleboard keep things moving between rounds.
The Indian food is the genuine surprise. Curries arrive at whatever spice level requested, the chicken tikka is consistently well-executed, and the garlic naan draws repeat mentions across reviews. The chef is Indian, which shows in the results. Beyond that, spring rolls and patatas bravas round out the bar snacks, and a broader menu stretches to pizza and steak for those who want something more substantial.
Most evenings feature live music — typically a solo vocalist — keeping the atmosphere warmer than a straight sports bar. Multiple screens cover major sporting events, drawing regulars who want cold draughts and easy company without trekking to Bùi Viện. Staff have a consistent reputation for attentiveness, and the air-conditioning is a practical bonus during Saigon's hotter months.
The crowd skews heavily expat and foreign visitor, and the vibe lands closer to a relaxed Irish pub than anything rowdy or scene-driven. For a neighborhood spot that covers late hours, decent food across several cuisines, live entertainment, and sport under one roof, it has built a loyal weekly following for good reason.
Reviews
It’s really fun, everyone - definitely worth going. There’s live music in the evening, and the singer is a Filipina , she sings really well. The food and drinks are quite good, and the bartenders are friendly. The bar isn’t as wild or loud as the ones on Bùi Viện, but overall it’s great if you want to chill and meet foreigners
Kind of an above average dive here. Actually came for the Indian food menu, but evidently the cook went back home, so I settled for something else. That's something I normally don't do - generally I walk when such occurs. Had a Thai Beef Salad and a Pulled Pork Sandwich that was supposed to be Asian style - it wasn't. I'm sure they gave me the BBQ style Pulled Pork Sandwich but who knows. Meat was tasty, but I didn't like the sandwich as a whole and left most of it on the plate. I did think the Thai Beef salad was very good and ate it all. Service was good but I don't know, kind of timid - not sure if that's the right word. Maybe the service was what it was because I intimidate people. I think I didn't smile enough tonight as someone kind of obliquely said I think for me to hear.. It's a middle-aged expatriate clientele. I am such (leaning towards elderly), and I've always been awkward around people like me. Yeah I don't belong here, so I'll leave here and won't return.
Great service. Nice atmosphere. A place to hang out with friends or meet new people.
For a Sports Pub a surprisingly extensive Food & Drinks Menu, from Indian Food over Pizza to Steak.
