The Story

About This Place

Phổ Đình Thảo Điền - Uraetei Yakiniku draws consistent crowds to its spot on Thảo Điền street, where bamboo curtains divide the dining room into semi-private booths — an architectural choice that immediately distinguishes it from the open-plan grill houses nearby. The concept is Japanese-Korean yakiniku: fresh cuts arrive at the table unmarinated, leaving the quality of the meat to carry the meal without any masking. Short ribs are the most frequently cited highlight, and the broader menu extends to seafood, fresh vegetables, kimchi, soups, and a selection of Japanese and Korean drinks.

Pricing runs at roughly 1.2 million VND for a full meal for two, positioning the restaurant above casual neighborhood BBQ but reflecting the ingredient standard on the grill. Downstairs seating is noted for being quieter and more comfortable than the ground floor. Service moves at a steady pace; floor staff are attentive, and managers keep visible watch over the room. The team extends small unscripted gestures on birthdays, including complimentary gifts for guests who have not reserved ahead. Ramen and beef udon round out the menu for guests who want a cooked dish alongside the grill, and a yogurt dessert is included at no extra charge.

The dining room handles a wide mix of guests — families with children and older diners included — without the cramped feel of smaller Thao Dien grill spots. Hours run daily from 11 AM to 9 PM, covering both lunch and dinner without compressed sittings. With 4.4 stars from more than 1,300 Google reviewers, the restaurant holds a firm position in the neighborhood's Japanese dining landscape. Tables fill quickly on weekends, and advance reservations are the standard advice from regulars.

Nice location and especially comfortable downstairs. Friendly end efficient service. Tasty and high quality natural ingredients. We also enjoyed the yogurts for dessert. 1.2 million for a big meal for 2 pax = good value for money.

My favorite Japanese restaurant in Thao Dien. Fast and friendly service and excellent short ribs. Many different types of Japanese beef with seafood options and vegetables on the menu.

Ramen and beef udon are delicious but some other dishes are just acceptable (eg. pancake bánh xèo not as good as other restos). Rooms are private but a bit tiny and noisy. Services are normally quick. Price is acceptable. Parking for car is limited.

Expected more from a bbq this price range Food: meat was good quality, fresh veggies. But you have to pay extra for side dish (e.g., mediocre kimchi, garlic 🙄) Service: We had to grill the food ourselves. Service was very slow. Staff is poorly coordinated and was not attentive to our tables. Atmosphere: kinda nice but the table was a bit small.
