Love at the first sight from the cute atmospheres to the nice services. Food is very spicy even though I have request a half spicy level, but the taste and flavor was spot on. Also a bonus point for their big portions and the wide range of choices on the menu.

Hẻm Thái - Thai restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Hẻm Thái sits on Trần Ngọc Diện and has built a quiet but loyal following among Thao Dien residents who cycle through the menu so often they've stopped deciding what to order. The portions are the first thing most tables notice — papaya salad, pad thai, and curry arrive in volumes that regularly defeat solo diners, making the pricing feel fair even when the bill climbs. The spice is genuine: guests who order half-spicy still leave with heat on their lips, which is either a selling point or a warning depending on the table. A Penang curry with tofu holds up as a vegan option without feeling like an afterthought, hitting the kind of richness that takes people back to street stalls in Thailand.
The room runs two registers at once — an open-air section that catches the neighbourhood breeze and an air-conditioned interior for the midday heat. Staff are consistently described as kind and unhurried, which is part of why tables linger well past the meal. Service can feel slightly over-produced for a neighbourhood spot, and the combined menu (which includes items from adjacent restaurants) occasionally causes confusion over service charges, so it's worth reading the bill.
What sets Hẻm Thái apart from the cluster of international restaurants nearby is consistency rather than novelty — regulars report returning monthly and finding the same quality each time. For a neighbourhood that sees restaurants turn over quickly, that reliability is the actual draw.
Reviews
Legit the food is perfect hits the spot, I had the Penang curry very spicy tofu as I'm vegan and it was delicious took me back to Thailand days, spice level was great and tasted delicious, service is okay and atomsphere kinda over the top but would highly recommend as the food is well worth it, will be going back again, kinda pricey but honestly worth it Be careful as they put all the menus of other restaurants in one menu so you can get double the service charge,if you're not careful Other than that get the spicy penang with tofu you wont regret it
The portion is huge, food is decent. Open space and indoors with AC. I came back multiple times because it’s always been lovely to be here.
Visited for lunch today. Papaya salad, pad thai, curry. All dishes are voluminous and very delicious. I'm sorry I couldn't finish it. All employees are very kind and polite. We stayed a long time. We will definitely visit again!
As another guest commented - large portions for the price and very authentic. Thai food on Truong Sa means the ambiance is nice too! A great new local addition! Arnold says: I'll be back! 😁
