Gánh - Vietnamese restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Gánh occupies a spacious, airy room on Trần Ngọc Diện where a contemporary interior keeps visual references to Vietnamese heritage without leaning into kitsch. The dining room draws a mix of expats, tourists, and local families — the kind of crowd that values comfort and a menu that's easy to navigate but genuinely rooted in Vietnamese cooking.
The fresh spring rolls have become a reference point for regular visitors, cited repeatedly as among the best in the neighborhood — light, herb-forward, and well-assembled. The bánh xèo earns particular praise from vegetarian diners: a crunchy-yet-juicy sizzling pancake stuffed with fresh local herbs and served with a sharp dipping sauce. The kitchen also runs a pho and chicken soup that draw repeat visits, alongside a more unusual offering of sticky rice balls topped with sweet anchovies and prawns — a dish that signals what the menu is reaching for beyond the familiar.
The broader picture is a restaurant calibrated toward international palates while staying recognizably Vietnamese: approachable flavors, clean presentations, and portions that work well for sharing across a table. Service is attentive at its best, with individual staff members called out by name in multiple reviews for making evening meals feel considered. The indoor dining area is quiet and comfortable enough for a long family dinner without the noise that plagues busier spots in the neighborhood.
Gánh is at its most compelling for groups — the menu covers enough ground that everyone finds something, the space handles numbers without feeling cramped, and the value holds steady from starters through to a watermelon-with-local-wine finish that appears to be a reliable house move.

Reviews
Good dish + watermelon with local wine = nice evening dinner
Nice atmosphere and very unique food choices! Love the pho and chicken soup very much.
Alert !!! Vegetarian-friendly dishes are available :3 ! What impressed me most was that they have vegetarian dishes! OMG, the Banh Xeo (Vietnamese pancake) is super delicious: - The veggies and local herbs are so fresh and tasty - The banh xeo is crunchy on the outside yet juicy on the inside - The sauce is delicious as well - The only minus point is that it was a bit crowded
This is not truly authentic Việt food. Very nice place, great customer services. Foods reasonable price, and the flavors wasn’t there. Perhaps foods are cheap therefore qualities not.
