I live in ho chi minh city 3/4 of my life. I had bun bo in sooooo many restaurants and on the street, and this place to me by far is the best bun bo Hue. The broth is consistently delicious. I came at 10:30am and 2:30pm. Both times it tastes the same, not salty nor bland. I also recommend their banh loc Hue. The dipping sauce is salty, not sweet, which is exactly how i want. Oh the ice tea has a lovely jasmine fragrance. Service is tentative and friendly.

Bún bò Huế Trang - Vietnamese restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Bún bò Huế Trang sits on a quiet stretch of Nguyễn Bá Lân in Thảo Điền, drawing a loyal crowd from 6:30 AM through the afternoon with what many regulars consider the most reliable bowl of central Vietnamese noodle soup in the district. The broth is the centerpiece — deeply spiced, neither too assertive nor too mild, and notably consistent throughout the day. That steadiness in a dish requiring hours of simmering and careful seasoning is the kitchen's clearest signal of intent.
The bowl arrives with options: a straightforward beef version or an assorted combination featuring cuts that stay tender without going soft. The condiment table is well-stocked in the way of traditional Vietnamese noodle houses, but the Hue shrimp paste stands apart — fermented, pungent, and regionally authentic in a way that softened versions found elsewhere in the city are not. For those who lean into it, it transforms the bowl.
Bánh lọc Huế, the tapioca dumplings served with a salty rather than sweet dipping sauce, are recommended by regulars as a worthwhile addition. A jasmine-scented iced tea rounds out a meal that otherwise skews savory and heat-forward. The room is clean and unfussy, and an English menu eliminates any ordering barrier for the international residents and visitors who make up part of the neighborhood.
In Thảo Điền, where brunch menus and fusion concepts dominate much of the dining landscape, this spot occupies a specific niche: a morning-to-afternoon destination for authentic Hue cooking at everyday prices, run by an owner whose attentiveness shows up consistently across reviews. The early opening hour makes it one of the few proper breakfast stops for bún bò Huế in the area, though weekend closures come earlier at 4:30 PM.

The soup taste good, store look clean and easy to find location
Bun Bo Hue Trang serves up a classic, spot-on Bun Bo Hue that’s exactly what you’re craving. The broth is the real standout here – perfectly balanced, not too light but also not overpowering, with great depth of flavor. Add a bit of their chili on the side and you’re in business. It’s a nice local spot, super clean, with an English menu that makes ordering easy. I went for the signature bowl and was very happy with it – generous portions and everything fresh. Solid choice if you’re in the mood for authentic Bun Bo Hue done right. I’ll be back! Make sure to not order the signature or ask to remove the hock/knuckle if you don’t plan to eat it.
I had the noodle with beef. It was refreshing and delicious!! Especially the soup !! The owner was super kind and helped me with lots of things ! I love this place and the people!! I have to come back again 🫶 thank you so much !! ごちそうさまでした💓
One of the very few places that serve authentic Hue Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. They have different options for the beef toppings, but I went for the bowl with assorted meat. I loved it!!! Everything was seasoned so well, and the meat was cooked to perfection, so tender yet very juicy. The place also offers a variety of condiments you typically see at any noodle shops in Vietnam. However, if you would like to be adventurous, you can try the Hue shrimp paste, which is very strong in flavor but so delicious 😋. For dessert, you have got to try their housemade yogurt. It's to die for!!!!!!!! This is a rather small space. And the street it's on is also quite busy with traffic. If you come here by bike, you can just park on the sidewalk. But if you have a car, it would be quite difficult to find a parking space.
