Do your taste buds a favour and come try the food at Nhíms. My family and I are staying in HCM for over a week in the Masteri apartment blocks. We wanted to try a nearby local place for authentic food and this place seriously delivered. We tried other pho around the city, even Michelin star restaurants but they didn’t have the same flavour and aroma as this place. One of the staff Duc is such a lovely person who is friendly and has given us many helpful tips for our holiday. His English is great and he helped us to explain each dish every time and what sauces to add. It’s a small family run business and each day the menu changes so you are surprised and put your trust in the chef but it is so worth it. Any foreigner or local will enjoy the delicious food here it’s a must!

Nhím's Mama Bistro | Saigon local food - Restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
The restaurant sits at street level below the Masteri Thao Dien towers on D1A, drawing residents from the surrounding apartment blocks and travelers who've tracked it down specifically for the broth. The menu rotates daily — bún riêu one morning, bún bò the next — giving regulars reason to return and each visit a degree of unpredictability. Sunday is reserved for pho, and the version served here has built a following among people who've spent years eating pho across Vietnam, several describing the broth as richer and more aromatic than anything they found at higher-profile city addresses.
The operation is family-led. The owner and her relatives work the floor, and repeat visitors report being shown the correct way to eat each dish. Staff member Duc is cited by name in multiple independent reviews for his English and his habit of sharing local tips with guests staying nearby. Seating is outdoors, roadside in format but kept clean and orderly. One practical note: the kitchen cooks a fixed quantity each day and stops when supplies run out, typically before the posted closing time — early arrival is not optional.
The cà phê muối (salted coffee) has generated its own commentary, with at least one table ordering additional rounds to carry away. A few minutes' walk from Vincom Mega Mall, Nhím's Mama Bistro fills a gap that most comparable Thao Dien spots don't: consistent home-style Vietnamese cooking at breakfast and lunch hours, in a setting that draws expats, apartment dwellers, and travelers looking for something local rather than adapted.
Reviews
This is now my absolute favorite bowl of Pho in Vietnam after five years here. If you like a broth that rich and heavy on the spices this is your spot. Only available Sunday but worth doing it right. Service was the most friendly I've ever had in Vietnam. Great spot.
Roadside stall with smiley waiters. We had generous slices of beef in our ban bo and flavourful broth. A good lunch spot!
Quaint little venue, few minutes walk from the mall. I’ve been meaning to go here for a little while as I saw the good reviews and I wanted Vietnamese food. I wasn’t disappointed. I went in for Pho but ended up having Bún Rieu instead. That’s the beauty of travelling and having an open mind, always something new to try. The food was delicious and the service was great - I’ll be back
This restaurant features a rotating menu with different menu items every day. We had the bún riêu and bún bò, alongside the specialty coffee (cà phê muối). The coffee was so superb, we drank 2 cups and had an additional 2 cups to go!
