The Story

About This Place

Uchi Sushi & Omakase sits on Trần Não in An Khánh, one of Thao Dien's quieter residential stretches, drawing a loyal mix of expats, visiting food enthusiasts, and locals marking milestones. The focus is a multi-course omakase that weaves Vietnamese ingredients and technique into a Japanese-style progression — not as a novelty angle but as a cohesive culinary statement that holds across 15 to 17 courses: sashimi, nigiri, grilled and torched preparations, soups, and dessert.

The chef explains each dish as it arrives, and fresh wasabi is ground at the counter rather than served from a tube — a detail that signals the kitchen's investment in the format. The Vietnamese-Japanese fusion reads as intentional rather than incidental; specific courses use local produce and preparation methods that diverge from a strictly traditional omakase while remaining coherent as a meal. Ratings hold at 4.9 across more than 1,200 Google reviews, which is unusually consistent for a Saigon restaurant operating at this level. Guests repeatedly flag value: the omakase is described as affordable relative to comparable formats elsewhere in the city.

The space is calm and the pacing is unhurried. Staff have accommodated late arrivals with notable flexibility, and the kitchen handles children without disrupting the tasting menu for other guests. On Trần Não, where dining options thin considerably compared to the main Thảo Điền strip, this is the clearest structured fine dining offering in the immediate area — open seven days a week from 11 AM.

This was my first ever omakase experience, so it meant a lot to me, and I’m really glad I chose Uchi Sushi & Omakase. The food was sensational — creative, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. It’s a fusion of Vietnamese dishes and Japanese omakase, which might sound unusual at first, but they pulled it off spectacularly. Every dish was delicious — I even ate eggplant, which is something I usually avoid! They are also very kid-friendly and were happy to cater for my toddler, which we really appreciated. A big thank you to chef Phuong Lu (hope I got the name right) and the staff for such an amazing experience. We will definitely be back with our family and 100% recommend this place. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An unforgettable omakase journey. Every course felt like a quiet conversation between the chef and the ingredients—fresh, thoughtful, and beautifully balanced. You don’t just eat here, you experience it.

I feel compelled to add a 5-star review of this restaurant. We arrived nearly an hour late, due to extremely heavy traffic in HCMC. However, we called ahead to alert the staff and they could not have been more kind or accommodating!!! We’re so glad we finally made it to the restaurant!!! The 17-course Omakase menu was unbelievably good!! The fusion between Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine was artfully done and so delicious!! We WILL return!!
