The Story

About This Place

Kujaku Sushi sits on Nguyễn Quý Cảnh in An Phu with a 4.9-star average across 269 Google reviews — among the highest ratings for a Japanese restaurant in the eastern districts of Ho Chi Minh City. The restaurant is Vietnamese-owned, with English-speaking staff and an English menu that removes any ordering friction for the area's large expat population.

The kitchen centers on fresh sushi and sashimi, and the quality holds up to scrutiny — diners have compared it favorably to Haru, one of the better-established Japanese spots in Thao Dien. Beyond raw fish, a beef dish has drawn repeated praise for its texture, described as melting on contact. Grilled meats are available but have received more mixed responses. The tamago skews salty, which is worth noting for those sensitive to seasoning.

What distinguishes the space is its scale and calm. The dining room is large and quiet enough to book for private gatherings — one group took over the venue for a birthday party — while still feeling comfortable for couples or small tables. Decor leans into Japanese aesthetics with considered materials and low ambient noise that contrasts with louder venues in the neighborhood. The staff pace dishes promptly and have shown attentiveness toward families with young children.

For the An Phu and Thao Dien corridor, Kujaku Sushi fills a specific gap: a fresh-focused Japanese restaurant with strong ratings, accessible pricing, and service that does not feel transactional. It draws expat families, couples, and groups with equal reliability — which explains how a relatively new opening has accumulated so many five-star reviews so quickly.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is very comfortable. The price range of the food is very reasonable, it comes out quickly after ordering, and it shows above average quality.

We enjoyed our visit to the fullest. Great food, attentive staff, quick served, good atmosphere. The beef we ordered, I forgot its name, second pic of mine, is delicious, so tender, it melted in my mouth. This is such a hidden gem. Thank you, Kujaku Sushi. Will recommend & come back
