The Story

About This Place

Lac Thai 7 occupies a French colonial-style building on Xuân Thủy with both enclosed rooms and a street-facing patio that fills up after sunset. The menu is structured around sharing: whole plates of grilled shrimp with salt and chili, steamed clams with lemongrass, squid fried in fish sauce, and satay skewers in three formats—pork, beef, and chicken—arrive for the table to divide. The tom yum-style hot pot is the dish most consistently praised across reviews: a rich, aromatic broth that sustains through a long, unhurried dinner. Pineapple fried rice is another reliable order, fragrant and generously portioned without leaning too sweet.

The interior carries more visual intention than the average casual Thai restaurant—old French detailing, private rooms that seat larger groups, and a resident cat that has quietly become part of the atmosphere. The private rooms make it a practical choice for birthday celebrations and family gatherings, and several reviewers have used it exactly that way. Patio seats pick up road noise from Xuân Thủy, so the enclosed rooms are the better call for longer meals or conversations.

Prices sit in the mid-to-upper casual range. Portion sizes are large enough that the per-head cost stays reasonable for groups, though some diners find the final bill higher than expected once drinks are added. Heat levels run mild by Thai standards—the kitchen calibrates for a broad audience, which suits mixed groups but may fall short for those accustomed to central Thai spicing. Weekday lunch service runs only until 2 PM before reopening at 4:30 PM, a detail worth checking before a midday visit. On Friday and weekend evenings the patio draws a steady mix of expat families and local tables, making for a lively but conversational room.

For a mid-to-upper casual restaurant, the experience did not quite match the final price. Compared to other restaurants in the area, it was disappointing. The atmosphere felt flat for a Friday night, and while the patio is lovely in the evening, the service felt disengaged, with empty dishes left on the table too long. We ordered the green curry with chicken, mango sticky rice for dessert, and two drinks. The green curry was enjoyable with a mild spiciness, but the mango sticky rice looked far better on the menu than what was served, and the cocktail was overly sweet. As noted at the bottom of the menu, the bill includes 8% VAT, a 5% service charge and a 10% charge on alcohol.

This place offers a great balance between authentic Thai flavors and a comfortable, social dining atmosphere. The setting is warm and inviting, perfect for sharing dishes with friends or family, especially in the evening when the space feels vibrant but not overwhelming. The food is clearly meant to be shared and enjoyed together. The pineapple fried rice is fragrant and well-seasoned, served generously and full of texture. The hot pots—especially the Tom Yum–style soup—are rich, aromatic, and comforting, with a good balance of sour, spicy, and savory flavors. Ingredients taste fresh, and the portions are satisfying. Drinks are refreshing and pair well with the food, helping balance the spice. Service is attentive and friendly, with staff checking in at the right moments without interrupting the flow of the meal. Overall, Lạc Thái is a great choice if you’re looking for a relaxed Thai restaurant where good food, shared plates, and a lively atmosphere come together naturally. A solid spot for a long, enjoyable dinner

The food here is great, the portions were great for sharing, and filling. Our server Nhi was really attentive and helpful, providing great fun and friendly service. The atmosphere was comfortable, breezy, lots of open space. Not too loud, you can easily have conversation here but there will be some noise from traffic and the bar. Overall, great experience!

This is place great for having birthday party, with plenty of rooms. It is designed with old france classic interior. The food are really delicious and served quiet fast. However, it is very pricey for Thai food. The staffs are friendly and polite. Overall, great atmosphere. Thank you.
