CHAY GARDEN Xuân Thủy - Vegetarian restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Chay Garden on Xuân Thủy shares an entrance with a Thai restaurant from the same ownership group — easy to walk past, well-known to regulars. Past the gate, the interior opens into a space built around natural materials: wood surfaces, potted greenery, and an ambient calm that sits at odds with the busy street outside. The scent of herbs and aromatics is present from the moment diners are seated.
The plant-based menu runs considerably deeper than most vegetarian spots in Thao Dien. Lotus root chips tossed in cheese powder sit alongside more composed plates — winged bean salad with macadamia nuts and bunashimeji mushrooms, taro and mushroom salad dressed in passion fruit sauce, and a gac fruit soup that brings together tofu, shiitake, and white and red beans in a broth that reads as both nourishing and distinctly Vietnamese. Abalone mushroom tempura arrives with tamarind dipping sauce; the fried fruit spring rolls use four-season fruits rather than the standard vegetable filling. A hot pot option handles larger groups.
With a 4.8 average across 1,632 Google reviews, this ranks among the most consistently praised vegetarian restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City. Reviewers note that the kitchen seasons its food assertively without producing heaviness — a distinction that matters for diners skeptical of plant-based Vietnamese cooking. Plating is deliberate rather than decorative, portions are honest, and the service keeps pace even during full lunch service.
The room draws vegetarians and omnivores in equal measure, family tables celebrating with older relatives, and international visitors working through the Vietnamese menu for the first time. A buffet format is available for groups who want range without committing to individual dishes. For plant-based dining in Thao Dien, this is the baseline against which other options tend to be measured.

Reviews
Delicious vegetarian Vietnamese food and fast service. We were in the hurry yet the restaurant managed to prepare and serve the food on time. Despite serving vegetarian food, the food is flavorful, tasty, well-presented. I extremely love how they present the food at the table. The menu is diverse, including a wide range of food and dessert. It's quite difficult to choose. If you're vegetarian and want to have a taste of Vietnamese food, here's the place. One minus: the restaurant didn't serve napkins at the dining table. I'm quite confused about this. Otherwise, everything is great.
This is nice vegetarian restaurant with buffet option. They do have egg ingredient inside the egg noodles. Be sure to ask for ingredients before order. The hot pot was good and perfect for 2 people. It is a beautiful fancy place.
Took my mom and family here (they’re vegetarian) and they loooooved it. The food was incredible and everything was so well made. Loved the environment and can’t wait to come back
Good vegetarian foods. Nice presentation that accompany with flavors each dish presented. Try the chestnut caramelized with peppercorn pepper. This dish goes great with rice slightly sprinkle with black sesame.
