Hải Sản Hoàng Gia CN Quốc Hương Quận 2 - Restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
On a busy stretch of Quốc Hương in Thảo Điền, Hải Sản Hoàng Gia operates on a transparent premise: diners select live seafood from tanks, watch it weighed at the table before cooking, and receive the cost upfront. It is worth noting that cooking fees and wet tissue charges appear separately from the displayed prices—a detail that catches first-timers off guard but is standard practice here.
River prawns are the consistent draw: palm-sized, with a buttery, creamy interior, they run around 140,000 VND each and account for a significant portion of repeat visits. Lobster averages roughly 1.5 million VND per kilogram. For ốc hương—the large gastropod snails—weekend dinner is the optimal window; the super-size variety is reliably available Saturday and Sunday evenings but less so mid-week. Crabs, king crab, flounder, and assorted shellfish fill out the tanks on any given day.
Preparation leans toward salted egg and Thai-influenced sauces, both of which diners flag as highlights, though consistency varies by shift. The kitchen's general approach is to let the quality of the seafood speak rather than mask it with heavy seasoning.
The dining room is air-conditioned with ample seating, and floor staff actively clear debris between courses—a practical advantage during a full seafood spread. Service is described across reviews as attentive, with functional English that accommodates the international expat contingent that frequents this part of Thảo Điền. The restaurant's position on Quốc Hương also gives seated diners a clear view of the neighborhood's street activity.
Open 8 AM to midnight every day of the week, the venue covers early lunch through late-night weekend sittings. At 818 reviews averaging 4.8 stars, it holds one of the stronger ratings among live-tank seafood restaurants operating at this price point in the district.
Reviews
All seafood was super fresh, and delicious prepared and nicely presented. Service was amazing thanks to Thai Highly recommended. Highlight dishes: flounder and all the shellfish
Service is very good. They always come to clean the table with caring attitude. All the seafood is very very fresh and cook in a very good way to bring out its original flavor. We will come back for sure :)
Food: fresh and you can pick which one you like. For VVIP “ốc hương” (super big size), you have to dine in around dinner time Sat/Sun. As for taste, it hit/miss depends on the chef. I enjoy the salted egg flavor and thai flavor here but it was not that great in my last visit. The one before that was good. Taste also vary extremely by location as it taste so much better in district 7. For this location, I recommend to eat in weekend for super fresh and good food. Service: considering the price you pay, it is great but not at the level I expect at this price. But overall, it’s good service. However, parking is a major headache here, especially for car! Atmosphere: new and looking great. Nothing fancy to be wow’ed of.
Clean and hygiene place including the toilet, airconditioning is comfortable. Server will clean the mess on the table whenever it gets too messy. All the prices are shown according to weight of the seafood you chosed and weighed immediately to show you the cost for your reference. The river prawn is huge and the buttery cream inside was delicious. Around 140k each as big as your palm which in my opinion, it's affordable. We had 4 of em. Lobsters average at around 1.5mil per kilo. We chosed Canadian Boston lobster it was very fresh and tasty. We did not order the live grouper because they only had 1.5kg onwards which were very huge. The price per kilo was also reasonable in my opinion. People should know how many kilograms they are getting so they don't claim that they've been scammed. Normally first timer who couldn't gauge what amount they could eat will end up over ordering with a bill that they claim to be too expensive. So my advise is to know the size and amount of protein you could get out of the shell before you rush to order. We will definitely come back again in the future
