The Story

About This Place

La Plancha takes its name from the flat iron griddle central to French and Spanish cooking — a high-heat surface that caramelises proteins and vegetables without fuss, producing clean, direct flavours. The restaurant sits on Trần Ngọc Diện, a quieter residential street in Thao Dien that draws a predominantly expat and long-term resident crowd rather than transient foot traffic. That local-regular dynamic tends to keep kitchens accountable, and the 4.4-star average across 319 Google reviews reflects a floor of consistency rather than a spike from novelty.

The daily 11 AM to 11 PM window is genuinely useful — it covers a proper lunch, an early dinner for families, and a later sitting for those finishing work across the district. French restaurants in Thao Dien cluster at two ends: casual crêperie-style spots and formal, white-tablecloth operations. La Plancha occupies the middle ground, where the cooking technique is serious but the room presumably is not. That positioning suits the neighbourhood's rhythm, where weekday lunch tables fill with people who want something better than a sandwich but do not want a production.

Without a publicly available menu to reference, the full repertoire stays opaque, but the plancha format typically anchors around grilled proteins — fish, steak, chicken — dressed with classical French sauces and accompanied by market vegetables. That is speculative from the name alone; what is not speculative is the sustained positive feedback from nearly 320 reviewers across what appears to be regular operation. For anyone navigating the French dining options in Thao Dien, La Plancha represents a dependable middle ground between neighbourhood casual and formal occasion dining.

Had dinner here with my family and really enjoyed the experience. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and has a warm, cozy atmosphere at night with the lighting. It wasn’t too busy when we visited, so it was a great place to have a quiet family dinner. The staff were friendly, attentive, and happy to help whenever we needed anything. The service was excellent throughout our meal. We ordered the beef steak, vegetable soup, and a few other small dishes. The steak was tender and flavorful—my mom especially enjoyed it. I had the vegetable soup, which was light, not greasy, and tasted really good. Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere made for a very enjoyable dinner. I’d definitely come back again with my family.

I had a nice visit to La Plancha on the weekend and it was very nice. The atmosphere does feel like a French bistro; calm while yet trendy. The staff was very attentive and the food was very good. It was so nice to share a bottle of wine and something to eat with friends at this restaurant. No issues making a recommendation.
