The Story

About This Place

CantYna occupies a double role on Nguyễn Văn Hưởng: it is a full-service Italian restaurant and a working deli, where guests can pick up cold cuts, jarred pasta sauces, and dry pasta on their way out. That combination sets a particular tone — ingredients matter here, and the kitchen treats them accordingly.

The pasta program is the main draw. Pappardelle and carbonara appear repeatedly in reviews as benchmarks: the carbonara executed with proper richness rather than cream shortcuts, the pappardelle described by regulars as among the best versions available in Saigon. The broader menu extends to risotto, mussels and clam, veal, and lamb — the lamb in particular cited as a reason guests return without prompting.

The charcuterie board has built a quiet reputation as one of the more considered versions in the city, assembled from the same deli inventory and notable for wine-infused grapes. Desserts follow through: the tiramisu has maintained consistent quality across years of visits according to long-term regulars, and the pistachio ice cream draws specific repeat mentions independent of the rest of the meal.

Saturday and Sunday service begins at 11:30 AM, one of the earlier starts for Italian dining in Thao Dien. Weeknights run to midnight; Fridays and Saturdays to 1 AM, which pulls a later crowd that prefers a full dinner over something fast. Staff are praised for knowing both the menu and the deli inventory in detail.

For a neighborhood where Italian options range from casual to formal, CantYna holds a clear position: ingredient-focused, technically sound, and consistent enough that regulars treat it as a standing fixture rather than an occasional visit.

We have been twice and love everything about CantYna! Food, the lamb alone, makes you want to return, it is top tier, staff is extremely attentive and the atmosphere doesn't disappoint.
