The Story

About This Place

Chico's Pizza Bar occupies a semi-outdoor garden space in a residential pocket off Nguyễn Văn Hưởng, far enough from the main Thao Dien strip to feel like a neighbourhood find. The kitchen's distinguishing move is house-smoked brisket — prepared on-site and portioned directly onto calzones and wood-fired pies, giving the menu a distinctly American-barbecue lean underneath the Italian framework. That combination draws a repeat crowd that skews heavily foreign, filling the picnic tables for lunch and staying later on Fridays and Saturdays when the kitchen runs until 11 PM.

The four-cheese pizza is the most consistently praised order; the brisket calzone (230k) is the more ambitious plate, though the wood-fired crust can overbake on a busy service. Croquettes at 95k and a rack of ribs round out a menu that doesn't take itself too seriously. Pasta appears but plays a supporting role — most regulars are here for what comes out of the fire.

The semi-outdoor setting means afternoon heat and occasional smoke drift from the grill area; evenings are the more comfortable window, and the extended weekend hours make it a viable late-dinner option in a neighbourhood where most kitchens close earlier. Staff are reliably English-fluent, which eases ordering for the international clientele and speeds up group tables.

Pricing lands above the local average for the area — the calzone and croquette prices reflect the imported concept rather than Vietnamese street-food benchmarks — but for the quality of house-smoked protein and a properly proofed, wood-fired dough, the regulars clearly find the gap worth crossing a residential block to close.

Server kept picking and blowing his nose 🤢🤢🤢🤢 Booger brisket calzone was in the menu 🤢🤢🤢 We've been to this place a few times and only, really, enjoyed the brisket, but after our most recent visit we will never be coming back; the server kept picking and blowing his nose. It was so disgusting! He would touch the inside of his nose and then serve our food.

Just came in for a short stop and had anchovy pizza. I could compare it with others and find lacking. Price is high; it was an incredible 50k for extra rocket and it was scarce and sparse in my estimation and liking. Service is good and staff is friendly. Atmosphere is cosy, as in garden mood. So, it's just okay. Not that I'd go back for it.

We went here for lunch and we ordered a bunch to taste their best pizza. The waiter welcomed us to our table since we reserved prior to our visit. The serving time was approx 15min. The food was great. The pasta was a so-so but the 4 cheese pizza is the best deal for me. However, since me and my friend was not feeling well during our travel going here, we asked for warm water. The men waiter are very diligent to give us warm water. But as I observed I was trying to raised my hand to one of the woman staff and I felt like she intentionally ignored me. Also, I think they have to improve their comfort room since it doesn't smell good. All the rest are okay.

The semi-outdoor seating offers a pleasant atmosphere for socialising, but be prepared for a bit of smoke on your clothes due to the nearby grilling area. My Brisket Calzone arrived with high anticipation, but unfortunately, the crust had been over-baked, resulting in a persistent bitterness that overshadowed the other flavours. However, kudos to the impeccable brisket. The service left some room for improvement. When I inquired about portion sizes, the initial response was vague, simply stating it was suitable for one person. Accustomed to smaller portions, I opted for the size S calzone. Later, upon requesting a takeaway box for my leftovers, I discovered from a different staff member that both small and medium sizes had the same size dough! The only difference was the amount of smoked brisket filling.
