The Story

About This Place

Silvi Coffee Roasters sits inside a residential alley off Nguyễn Quý Đức, set back far enough that first-time visitors sometimes walk past the entrance. The search is worth it: this is the only place in Ho Chi Minh City operating a fully dedicated gluten-free kitchen, and the results hold up against non-GF counterparts by any reasonable measure.

The bánh mì is the signature item — a coeliac-safe baguette with proper crust and crumb, available in a pork filling, that draws people from well outside Thao Dien who haven't eaten a Vietnamese bánh mì since their diagnosis. Multiple reviewers flag it as the only GF bánh mì commercially available in Vietnam. The Margherita pizza earns similar notes: thin, crisp, and accurate enough in texture to register as a normal slice to those eating gluten-free by necessity. The pastry case runs to cinnamon rolls, pecan tart, lemon poppy seed muffin, and apple danish; the bagels — crunchy crust, genuinely soft interior — are the item most likely to convert someone who had written off the format after bad experiences elsewhere.

Coffee runs smoother and lower in bitterness than the typical Vietnamese style, which suits the food-forward focus of the menu. The space is small, seating is limited, and the café closes on Mondays, but Tuesday through Sunday from 8:30 AM it draws a steady mix of Thao Dien regulars and travellers working from carefully researched lists of GF stops in the city. A dog is a semi-permanent fixture, mentioned warmly in enough reviews to count as ambient. Staff are knowledgeable about allergen concerns — a practical asset for anyone eating here out of medical necessity rather than preference.

I am not a coffee fan nor do I eat gluten-free, but this is a special place for both in any case. Nat, the owner is very passionate and knowledgeable about both industries. A visit is an experience on its own due to the relaxing atmosphere, great interior design and the education Nat can provide. Everything is carefully designed, with the same care we can perceive in all products, all of hihh quality. There is a lot more than just coffee, the pasteries, food and snacks overal are delicious and very fairly priced. This place has grown a lot in the last decade and they do deserve it.

This place was very nice. The Bahn mi was really nice and I’m not even gluten free. My partner is and she loved it. Cold brew coffee tasted delicious. We also tried the bagel chips and other snacks, very nice. Brownie and Nutella twist were also incredible and could not tell the difference to a normal gluten filled sweet treats. Berry smoothie very nice also. Bought a pizza to go as well because the food was so nice. Owner and staff very friendly, warm and accommodating. This was our last day in Vietnam and this place has made it a great one. We would recommend this place to everyone, coeliac or not. Don’t miss this spot. It’s a bit out from the central area but well worth the grab over.

I had the pork banh mi and it was delicious; I was so glad I found a gluten-free option. I also had the brownie, which was excellent. It's great to find places with a whole gluten-free menu like this one; I highly recommend it! The menu looks delicious, and the staff is very kind and friendly.

The café has recently moved to a new location, and the new space is much larger and beautiful. They offer not only incredibly delicious gluten-free food but also outstanding coffee, including excellent filter coffee. The staff are truly passionate about coffee and know their beans really well. I’m absolutely obsessed with their gluten-free bagels. Highly recommended!

The absolute best gluten free, coeliac friendly place. Enjoyed the most delicious pizzas after a month in Vietnam and enjoying local food, this was a welcome change for a meal on our last night. If you’re in HCMC it is worth the visit.
