The Story

About This Place

Silvi Coffee Roasters sits inside a residential alley off Nguyễn Quý Đức, set back far enough that first-time visitors sometimes walk past the entrance. The search is worth it: this is the only place in Ho Chi Minh City operating a fully dedicated gluten-free kitchen, and the results hold up against non-GF counterparts by any reasonable measure.

The bánh mì is the signature item — a coeliac-safe baguette with proper crust and crumb, available in a pork filling, that draws people from well outside Thao Dien who haven't eaten a Vietnamese bánh mì since their diagnosis. Multiple reviewers flag it as the only GF bánh mì commercially available in Vietnam. The Margherita pizza earns similar notes: thin, crisp, and accurate enough in texture to register as a normal slice to those eating gluten-free by necessity. The pastry case runs to cinnamon rolls, pecan tart, lemon poppy seed muffin, and apple danish; the bagels — crunchy crust, genuinely soft interior — are the item most likely to convert someone who had written off the format after bad experiences elsewhere.

Coffee runs smoother and lower in bitterness than the typical Vietnamese style, which suits the food-forward focus of the menu. The space is small, seating is limited, and the café closes on Mondays, but Tuesday through Sunday from 8:30 AM it draws a steady mix of Thao Dien regulars and travellers working from carefully researched lists of GF stops in the city. A dog is a semi-permanent fixture, mentioned warmly in enough reviews to count as ambient. Staff are knowledgeable about allergen concerns — a practical asset for anyone eating here out of medical necessity rather than preference.

It was a little hard to find the entrance. It's inside the alley, so you have to look closely. Cozy, quiet, and unique, the bakery cafe staff were friendly and the food looked good. But I had cinnamon rolls and avocado bagels I don't think it can win by taste.😅

Fantastic place to visit! My partner is caelic and was able to have his first banh mi here because of the GF bread. We also shared a pizza and the apple danish. Loved it so much that we came back the next day for bagels as well. Would recommend even as a non-GF visitor 😁

A great place to get a great gluten free food and have a coffee (or tea, smoothie, juice). The food is fresh and the right combination of chewy, soft and crunchy altogether - the banh mi is fantastic as is the Margherita pizza. If you're looking for gluten free in HCMC - this is a definite must visit. The staff are knowledgeable, experienced and lovely. Plus the little doggo made the experience all that much more fun.

The best gluten free experience ever! To have a whole dedicated menu and for the food to be as good as it was doesn’t happen often if ever! The banh mi was amazing, the baguette was like a regular roll, the cinnamon roll was also 10/10, I love this place so much I’ve ordered on grab and been back again since my first visit. Also the pizza was possibly the best thing I’ve eaten since being GF, this place is a must if you are in HCM, don’t miss out. I’ll be ordering more before I leave HCM too ❤️

Pork Banh Mi was just incredible and such a treat to be able to have as a coeliac. We came here twice while in HCMC. I also tried the pecan tart & cinnamon roll, both were real treats. Definitely go support these guys if you're looking for gluten free, coeliac-safe food in Ho Chi Minh! The location was rather out of the way for us, but so worth the trip (and it's really easy to catch Grab bikes from anywhere in the city). Only thing I would mention is there was a dog there both times we went that was sort of snarling and growling at us when we came in. We were all good, but just something to mentally prepare for 😅
