The Story

About This Place

The only place in Vietnam where a diagnosed coeliac can eat a proper bánh mì, this small bakery-café on Nguyễn Quý Đức has built a devoted following among gluten-sensitive travelers passing through Ho Chi Minh City. The bánh mì baguette—made entirely without gluten—consistently earns descriptions of being indistinguishable from conventional bread: soft crumb, proper crust, none of the gummy textures that typically define gluten-free baking. The pizza has been called a revelation by long-term GF diners, and the bagels—crisp on the outside, yielding inside—have converted people who had written off the category after bad experiences elsewhere.

The café sits inside an alley set back from Nguyễn Quý Đức; the entrance takes a moment to locate, but the space inside is quiet and unhurried. A resident dog is a recurring detail across reviews. Silvi Coffee Roasters' espresso menu runs toward smooth and milk-forward rather than intensely bitter, and extends to coconut coffee, Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk, matcha, and a turmeric-and-nutmeg milk drink. The result is a pairing that works equally well for someone after a proper café drink and someone who came specifically for the food.

The pastry counter covers cinnamon rolls, pecan tarts, apple danishes, and lemon poppy seed muffins—all held to the same standard as the savory items. Staff are described across multiple reviews as knowledgeable about coeliac requirements, which matters for guests who need cross-contamination assurance rather than simple ingredient substitution. Grab delivery extends the reach for visitors based outside Thao Dien. For those who eat gluten without restriction, the menu stands on its own terms—several reviewers arrived out of curiosity and returned specifically for the bagels.

It was a little hard to find the entrance. It's inside the alley, so you have to look closely. Cozy, quiet, and unique, the bakery cafe staff were friendly and the food looked good. But I had cinnamon rolls and avocado bagels I don't think it can win by taste.😅

Fantastic place to visit! My partner is caelic and was able to have his first banh mi here because of the GF bread. We also shared a pizza and the apple danish. Loved it so much that we came back the next day for bagels as well. Would recommend even as a non-GF visitor 😁

A great place to get a great gluten free food and have a coffee (or tea, smoothie, juice). The food is fresh and the right combination of chewy, soft and crunchy altogether - the banh mi is fantastic as is the Margherita pizza. If you're looking for gluten free in HCMC - this is a definite must visit. The staff are knowledgeable, experienced and lovely. Plus the little doggo made the experience all that much more fun.

The best gluten free experience ever! To have a whole dedicated menu and for the food to be as good as it was doesn’t happen often if ever! The banh mi was amazing, the baguette was like a regular roll, the cinnamon roll was also 10/10, I love this place so much I’ve ordered on grab and been back again since my first visit. Also the pizza was possibly the best thing I’ve eaten since being GF, this place is a must if you are in HCM, don’t miss out. I’ll be ordering more before I leave HCM too ❤️

Pork Banh Mi was just incredible and such a treat to be able to have as a coeliac. We came here twice while in HCMC. I also tried the pecan tart & cinnamon roll, both were real treats. Definitely go support these guys if you're looking for gluten free, coeliac-safe food in Ho Chi Minh! The location was rather out of the way for us, but so worth the trip (and it's really easy to catch Grab bikes from anywhere in the city). Only thing I would mention is there was a dog there both times we went that was sort of snarling and growling at us when we came in. We were all good, but just something to mentally prepare for 😅
