The Story

About This Place

Nam Mê Saigon anchors its menu in Mekong Delta techniques rather than the Saigonese standards that dominate most of Thảo Điền's restaurant strip. Fermentation, char, and sour-fat contrasts drive the cooking: fermented duck arrives tangy and juicy, offset by pickled vegetables; grilled oysters are finished with white wine; fried snakehead fish comes paired with a tamarind fish sauce dip. The vegetable dishes are treated with the same care—stir-fried young pumpkin holds its texture, grilled okra keeps its distinctive flavor, and eggplant is brought to tenderness without turning soft. Spring rolls are fried to order, shatteringly crisp outside and hot through the center.

The space has both indoor seating and an outdoor terrace that works well on cooler evenings, though the indoor AC has drawn some complaints. What sets it apart from comparable spots in the neighborhood is a dedicated baby playroom, which makes it a practical venue for milestone celebrations and family gatherings. The kitchen handles set menus for private events, accommodates buffet layouts, and swaps drinks to house specialties without friction. Staff speak English and run allergy checks before orders go in.

At 4.9 stars across 2,126 Google reviews, it ranks among the most consistently rated restaurants in the district. Regulars return for the duck la lot leaves, the crab fried rice, and the fermented duck with chao—dishes that are difficult to find in this concentration this far east of the city center. Mocktails round out the drinks menu for non-drinkers; the wine selection is limited to a single red by the glass. The kitchen can run slow during peak service and portions lean modest, so ordering a spread rather than a single main course is the more reliable approach.

A rare gem in District 2. Every dish we ordered was unique. Spring rolls were deep fried to perfection, crispy on outside and piping hot on inside. Beef steak melted in the mouth, succulent and perfectly marinated. Fermented duck was tasty with a tad of fat that made meat juicy with slight tanginess when complemented with pickled vegetables. Staff all spoke English and extremely friendly. A good alternative to regular Vietnamese with a varied Mekong style taste and cooking style.

Food, atmosphere, and service is top notch. My favorite was th grilled oysters with the white wine. I also ordered one of the platters. Staff and Service is great they made sure I did not have any allergies. I love Vietnamese food and I’m glad to have found this gem near my apartment

Good choice for trying Mekong cuisine, portion is a bit small and wait time can be long. The staff is friendly and supportive. They have a nice outdoor area, would be nice for cooler days. The indoor atmosphere would be much better if their AC runs properly.

Food was delicious. The grilled okra and sir-fried young pumpkin (which looked more like baby squash) were unique and very flavorful. The eggplant was tender but still maintained some firmness. The dishes were cooked perfectly where the vegetables maintained their distinctive flavor. Also had the grilled pork which was tender and tasty. The fish was a bit overcooked and chewy. Grilled banana was light not overly sweet, The wine offering was underwhelming; for example only offered 1 red wine by the glass. Everything else was by the bottle. Not very distinctive displays nor unique ambiance. Great restaurant if you’re looking for the flavor of the food to highlight the dishes. Would definitely come back again to try other dishes. There were some set menus choices as well.

The Vietnamese food at Nam Mê Saigon is really delicious. They have a great variety of food and drink options, already visited twice to try out different dishes. Really enjoyed both the food and the mocktails.
