The Story

About This Place

Gõ - Thai Noodles occupies a compact indoor space on Xuân Thủy, decorated with Thai touches that keep it feeling comfortable rather than sparse — though the limited seating means calling ahead on busy afternoons is advisable. The kitchen takes a Vietnamese-influenced approach to Thai classics, which shapes both the flavor profile and the menu construction in noticeable ways.

The boat noodles stand out: a 100% pure beef bone broth, slow-built and dense, served with beef shank, rare beef slices, beef balls, and water spinach. Several reviewers have drawn comparisons to Taiwanese beef noodle rather than strictly Thai, which gives a sense of where the kitchen's instincts lie. The grilled pork with sticky rice draws the most consistent praise — well-seasoned, properly cooked, served with a dipping sauce — and outperforms the more internationally recognizable dishes on the menu. Pad Thai with shrimp is competently executed, with quality shrimp, though it runs mild and benefits from additional chili at the table.

The salad section adds range: crispy fried catfish with mango fish sauce, mango salad with dried anchovies, and three-claw crab salad give the menu a character that goes beyond standard expat-facing Thai. Tom Yum is built on concentrated pork bone broth rather than a sharply sour base, which suits diners who prefer restrained heat but may disappoint those expecting an aggressive Thai profile.

Pricing sits at the lower end for Thảo Điền, drawing local residents and expats in roughly equal measure for lunch. Service moves quickly. The space fills early at midday; evening service is noticeably calmer. For the neighborhood, it fills a specific gap — consistent Thai noodles at accessible prices, without the polish or premium of larger District 2 venues.

Gõ - Thai Noodles Thai Restaurant in Thao Dien is a solid spot for anyone craving Thai noodles. Located in District 2, it’s easy to access, especially in the trendy, expat-friendly area of Thao Dien. I tried the Boat Noodles, which were decent, with a nice balance of flavors and spice. The restaurant’s modern decor with traditional Thai touches creates a cozy yet stylish dining atmosphere. It’s especially popular for lunch, drawing both locals and expats. The service is good, and they accept Apple Pay and credit cards, which adds convenience. Overall, a decent choice for Thai food with good service and fair prices.

Nice thai restaurant in the middle of Xuan Thuy street. The food was delicious. I ordered the beef noodle and the broth was excellent, very dense et flavorful. Almost reminds me of some taiwanese beef noodle. The mango sticky rice was also very good. Will come back to try the rice dishes next time.

Very nice Thai restaurant, good food, good price, decor was very cute Cons: the AC seems not working so well (or because of where we seat), Tomyum flavor dish is not what you expect from a Thai place (mild, not sour enough), but its also can be my preferences
