The Story

About This Place

Cà phê Yên occupies a low-key shophouse on Nguyễn Đăng Giai, directly across from the Amanaki hotel — easy to walk past, easy to linger in once found. The interior leans into a deliberate rusticity: worn wooden furniture, walls and shelves populated with old film cameras that give the space more the feel of a collector's sitting room than a commercial cafe. An outdoor section bordered by greenery extends the usable area, and on cooler mornings it draws the kind of crowd that arrives with a book or a laptop and stays well past the second coffee.

The drinks menu keeps things straightforward. The hot caramel latte is the item that comes up most consistently among regulars — the coffee itself is roasted with enough character that the caramel reads as complement rather than disguise, and the aroma carries. Fresh longan tea rounds out the non-coffee options for those who prefer something lighter and fruit-forward. Prices sit well below what comparable Thao Dien addresses charge, which makes extended stays feel guilt-free rather than indulgent.

A few caveats worth noting: the space is compact, the wooden chairs and low tables suit a certain posture better than others, and there is no air conditioning — a real consideration during peak afternoon heat. The hours (6:30 AM to 7 PM daily) skew toward morning and midday use rather than evening socializing. What Cà phê Yên offers that larger, louder Thao Dien cafes don't is a genuine slowness — the kind of place where the ambient noise is mostly birdsong and the staff aren't pushing turnover. For residents of the district who want a reliable early-morning coffee without the weekend crowds, it fills that gap well.

One of the hidden gems in Thao Dien. The Cafe is just opposite Anamaki Thao Dien hotel. Walking into the cafe, you feel totally relax with rustic feel to it. Cafe atmosphere is decorated with old cameras, creating a unique feel to the place. Coffee is good and would recommend drinking the hot caramel latte. You can really smell the aroma of the coffee with the caramel. Perfect! A place where you can really sit all day and just letting the world go by.

Yen Cafe offers a wallet-friendly option in trendy Thao Dien. The shop is small in size with simple decor. Although the space is quiet, the wooden tables and chairs are a bit low, and the lack of AC might leave you feeling toasty. The drinks are decent, but nothing out of the ordinary in terms of flavour.
