River View Restaurant and Coffee는 Thảo Điền 최상층에 자리 잡은 레스토랑으로, 테라스에서 내려다보이는 사이공 강의 전망이 이 동네 어느 식당과도 비교할 수 없는 차별점이다. 계단을 올라야 한다는 불편함이 간간이 언급되기는 하지만, 그리 잦은 불만은 아니다.
사람들이 수십 번씩 발길을 돌리는 이유는 음식에 있다. 치킨 shawarma는 주재원들 사이에서 충성도 높은 팬층을 보유하고 있으며, 일관된 맛과 부드러운 육질, 진한 마늘 소스, 직접 담근 피클이 어우러져 일반 샌드위치 가게 수준을 훌쩍 넘는다는 평을 듣는다. Hummus는 직접 구운 따뜻한 아라빅 빵과 함께 제공되고, tabbouleh는 사이공 곳곳에서 흔히 접하는 물기 많은 버전과 달리 깔끔하고 신선한 허브 향이 살아 있다. 양고기 요리는 마리네이드와 조리 기술이 뛰어나다는 평가를 받는다. 음식 양이 넉넉해 포장 박스를 챙기는 일이 자연스럽게 식사의 일부가 된다.
주방에서는 쌀, 렌틸콩, 바삭한 양파를 조합한 이집트 길거리 음식의 진수 koshari를 간헐적으로 스페셜 메뉴로 선보인다. 단골들은 메뉴에 오를 때마다 연락해달라고 부탁해둘 만큼 이 요리에 각별한 애착을 가지고 있으며, 이는 대부분의 리뷰에서 반복적으로 칭찬받는 직원들의 세심한 응대를 잘 보여주는 사례다.
제공되는 모든 음식은 할랄 인증을 받았으며, 서양식과 베트남식 식당이 주를 이루는 Thảo Điền의 다이닝 씬에서 실질적인 빈자리를 채워주고 있다. 가격대는 이 지역 기준으로 합리적이라는 평이 지배적이다. 빵, 샐러드, 메인, 이집트 민트 티로 차려진 풀 상차림을 즐겨도 인근 비슷한 급의 국제 요리 레스토랑보다 훨씬 저렴하다.
손님층은 중동 출신 주재원, Ho Chi Minh City를 방문 중인 무슬림 여행자, 그리고 호기심 많은 현지인들이 고루 섞여 있다. 이 조합은 대부분의 저녁 시간대에 여유롭고 환대받는 분위기를 자연스럽게 만들어낸다.
This is my favorite restaurant in Thao Dien. I have eaten the Chicken Shawarma here at least 30 times! The chicken shawarma hummus and tabbouleh salad are also my favorites. Oh and I love the garlic sauce and pickles too! Consistent quality always brings me back. I’m really picky about chicken and I never find any tendon or other chewy parts in the Chicken Shawarma. The prices are really reasonable too, especially for the location.
Very good Egyptian/ Middle East Restaurant in Saigon. You’ll find flavors that are hard to find in Vietnam. The best of this restaurant is the river view in the last floor. However you’ll need to climb a lot of stairs.

Absolutely fabulous! Yesterday lunch was my third visit. The food is delicious and have plenty of vegetarian options as well. But what stands out most is the service of the staff. After eating a dish called koshari in Luxor, Egypt last year December, I was excited to find this Egyptian restaurant in Thao Dien. I asked if this dish is on the menu, it wasn’t, as alternative she mentioned she will text me when koshari is available as a once in a while special. And indeed, two days ago I got a message from the team. Well done. Great service. And the dish? Almost as good as in Luxor. All three visits have nice, good food, great service and for sure I like to come back.
I know nearly nothing about Egyptian food, so don't take this review too seriously. The food is extremely good (in my humble opinion). The hummus goes really well with the pita bread and naan bread. The beef and chicken, though a little dry, marinated and cooked just right so it blend nicely with all the condiments. Overall it's a very easy to eat meal, which heavily leans toward the richness and fatiness of the food instead of just simple sweet/salty/spicy/sour taste. My only complain, is that the food take ages to arrived. My first dish took approximately 50 mins, so i guess you can't rush perfection. Also, i can hear cursing coming from the back of the house, so not a very pleasant thing to hear. In conclusion, if the service time is a little bit faster, it would be perfect.
