The Story

About This Place

Tucked into a narrow lane off Lê Văn Miến, Take Five Cafe occupies a clean, airy space that filters out most of the street noise Thao Dien is famous for generating. The crowd skews toward people with laptops open—wall outlets are plentiful, the ambient volume stays low, and no one seems in a rush to turn tables. That combination is harder to find in this neighborhood than it sounds.

The drinks menu leans lighter and less sweet than the area average. The matcha xoài pairs mango with matcha without tipping into dessert territory, the peach tea draws repeat orders, and the milk tea series holds its own against the more established spots nearby. For something to eat, the cinnamon twist bun rounds out a working afternoon without demanding attention. Nothing on the menu is particularly complex, which appears to be a deliberate choice rather than a limitation.

Staff English is notably strong—a practical detail for expats who find themselves stumbling through orders elsewhere in the district. The interior is tidy without feeling sterile: enough natural light, enough space between tables, and a pace that encourages staying longer than a single drink.

Take Five Cafe holds a 5.0 rating across 101 Google reviews, a number that reflects consistent execution rather than novelty buzz. It opened quietly and has built its following through repeat visits rather than social media spectacle. For anyone working remotely from Thao Dien and tired of paying a premium for noise and crowds, it fills a real gap.

Came across this shop randomly on my little journey through HCM during their soft opening. The staff is really friendly and the coffee is good — I’m not a coffee expert by any means, but I enjoyed it. The interior is very clean, and the staff speaks excellent English. It’s very easy and relaxed for non-Vietnamese speakers.
