Cute little ice cream shop. Came with some friends. I got a small cup of the Bueno, my friend got a cone of vanilla, and my other friend got a cone of chocolate. We got a little treat for free with our order.

Puppy & Cesar - Ice cream shop in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Puppy & Cesar is a pint-sized gelato shop on a quiet residential street in Thao Dien, with fewer than ten seats and an open-fronted layout that keeps things breezy on humid afternoons. The pitch is simple: housemade gelato and sorbet built from real ingredients rather than the flavoring powders that prop up larger chains.
Regulars point to the sorbet as the standout — fruit-forward and genuine, though a touch sweet for the uninitiated. Among the rotating gelato lineup, salted caramel, yogurt, kumquat and guava, and a dense chocolate earn consistent mentions. The mint is polarizing — reviewers note it skews syrup-sweet rather than herb-fresh. A Bueno-flavored scoop rounds out the more indulgent options. On Fridays and weekends the kitchen adds waffles, a pairing that draws repeat visitors specifically on those days. The shop occasionally throws in a small complimentary treat with orders, a detail that lands well with first-timers.
The setting is minimal: open to the street, a handful of seats, no ornamentation. It functions better as a drop-in than a spot for lingering sessions. Staff are consistently described as warm and conversational, which compensates for the limited footprint. The wifi password — ILOVEGELATO — is a small signal of the shop's self-awareness.
For anyone fatigued by the consistency of Baskin Robbins or Fanny, this shop offers something more considered. Portions are honest relative to the price point, and the texture holds up: smooth, properly creamy, not icy. In a neighborhood where quality gelato options remain sparse, Puppy & Cesar fills a gap without overreaching.
Reviews
I ordered rum and chocolate flavors, and they were pretty good, smooth creamy layer, greasyyyy. The staff was friendly and enthusiastic. She talked lightly
nice little spot for some pretty decent ice cream! they aren't in abundance of flavours but there is still a good variety to choose from! ice cream quality is good! place is a small little spot which is good for catch ups with mates. there's no real "indoor" space as the inside area remains opened door to the outside
My favorite ice-cream shop: Puppy & Cesar - A lot of different flavors of gelato - Nice staffs - Under 10 seats
Small place but enough for an ice cream shop. Price is reasonable for the quality and the portion of a scoop. Sorbet is a little bit sweet, gelato is not so creamy and a little icy but with that price it’s totally acceptable. Don’t try the mint ice cream, it’s too sweet because they might us the mint syrup. Highly recommend: yogurt, salted caramel, kumquat and guava, chocolate is okay.
