Best Malaysian food in Saigon so far. Beef randang and chicken curry are great. Narsi Goreng fried rice is wonderful with garlic fragrance.
Mkitchen - Ẩm Thực Truyền Thống Malaysia & Singapore - Malaysian restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Mkitchen has accumulated a following across two locations, with many regulars ordering on Grab for years before making the trip to dine in. The pull is a Malaysian and Singaporean menu that covers real ground — char kway teow, Hokkien mee, otak, beef rendang, chicken curry, a garlic-forward nasi goreng, and a fried chicken nasi lemak that multiple reviewers single out as the order to place first. Prices sit at the affordable end of what Thao Dien typically offers, and portions are generous enough that overeating is a common complaint.
The weekend-only yong tau foo has become something of a signature: a stuffed tofu and vegetable soup with a broth noticeably thicker and richer in umami than versions commonly found in the city, drawing comparisons that put it above what some diners have had in Singapore. The teh tarik is properly frothy and calibrated — the kind of detail that signals the kitchen is cooking to the source rather than approximating it. Kuih-muih, traditional Malaysian cakes, also appear on weekends.
The space is compact and unpretentious, drawing expats chasing specific cravings and locals curious about a cuisine rarely done with this level of consistency in Ho Chi Minh City. One reviewer described it as immediately recalling Melaka — a specific regional reference that carries more weight than a generic authenticity claim. The owners are present and talkative, and the background of the restaurant comes up organically in conversation during a sit-down visit.
The schedule warrants attention: closed Thursdays and Fridays, open until 9:30 PM on weekends. In a neighborhood where the dining landscape skews heavily Western and fusion, this kitchen occupies a distinct and largely uncontested position.
Reviews
Probably the wrong time for any atmosphere as I went at 430pm but the food is really good and tasty. I had the nasi lemak and chicken wings and it was really good, also had hokkien mee which was very tasty. On the side I ordered some otak which was also very good. I will be back.
A cozy place with a menu that offers a whole wide varieties of Malaysian cuisine. The more you flip the pages, the more dishes you want to try. For this occasion, I ordered the yong tau foo (only available on weekends) and the curry puffs. The yong tau foo is even better than the ones I had in Singapore in my opinion. The soup is much thicker with luscious umami taste. The curry puff is a let-down, though. The filling is just too runny and the overall taste is lacking. The price is reasonable. Everything in the photos for under 200k.
The most authentic Malaysian food you can find in HCMC! Go straight for the Fried Chicken Nasi Lemak and the Wat Dan Ho. You won't regret it! Two thumbs up! 👍🔥"
I've tried several Malaysian-cuisine restaurants in HCM and this is by far the best taste. It took me back to Melaka. The owner and staff are friendly and shared a bit of their story with us. I'm excited to come back for kuih-muih on the weekend as well. The in-person experience was worth it more than simply ordering via Grab, but if you're only looking for the taste, I suggest you order now 😍
