Hem Chill Bar & Food - Bar in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Hem Chill Bar & Food occupies an open-fronted space on a side alley off Thao Dien's main strip, with a menu that splits between Korean street food and Western bar staples. Tteokbokki arrives drenched in gochujang sauce, the Korean fried chicken lollipops come crispy, and the fried rice has built a quiet following among regulars. Pizza, burgers, and a mackerel dish round out a menu that skews casual and shareable rather than polished.
The venue shifts register after dark. Live bands take the stage most nights, typically from 9:30pm — on Saturdays the set sometimes kicks off at 8:30pm. Sunday nights have developed a consistent draw for the music alone. Upside-down beer pours add a minor theatrical touch to the drinks list, and weekly rotating specials give different nights their own identity. Happy hour runs until 7pm, making it a functional early stop before the neighborhood fills.
Upstairs, a separate bookable room handles private events. The team has put together custom menus for group bookings, and the space has handled everything from casual celebrations to more structured gatherings. At 369 reviews and a 4.3 rating, the bar has found a steady audience among Thao Dien's expat crowd and local regulars who want food that goes beyond bar snacks without demanding a formal sit-down experience. Pricing runs slightly above neighborhood average — the trade-off for the live music, the space, and the late hours. Friday and Saturday closings at 2am make it one of the few spots in the area still serving well past midnight.

Great living music band playing at night, usually from 9:30pm, but when we came on Sat night, it started at 8:30pm which was great. Love the upside down beers 👍👍

Been meaning to try here. Although I wanted to try a burger, I saw the snapper on Maps menu pics and wanted to try it. I couldn't find that on the physical menu, so maybe they don't sell it anymore. I tried the mackerel (210K/$8.35) and crispy chicken lollipops (135K/$5.40). The chicken was much smaller than I imagined prior to ordering. I've had countless chicken in Korea, I've never had this flavor. The sauce was ok (not great), but it was also cold, so it made the chicken kind of cold. A thick pasty sauce. The mackerel was also smaller than I imagined for paying 210K (maybe that's standard price, I don't get fish often in Vietnam), but it wasn't really worth paying 210K for it. I should have just gone for a burger. That being said, the fish tasted adequate, though. Not many bones. Had I not wanted to try the drumsticks, I would have tried the chicken parmigiana sandwich. On the drinks menu, it says there's 10% VAT & (I believe) a 5% service fee. 30K/$1.20 for a regular bottle of Dasani water (which I believe costs around 7K in a convenience store or 10K/11K depending on the place for a 1.5L bottle of it)... I was charged VAT, so đ412,500/$16.45 for my meal. Unfortunately, that's much more than the value I felt eating here. I'm sure this place is good for groups.
It's restaurant. First of all, it seems like I visited here on the day when they opened this restaurant. So I think their operation was not running well. The staffs working here was nice and the location is not bad. So I added two stars for it. But the foods were.... May be because they just started. And the price was more expensive than the others. I think everything will be better soon... It's been fl4 years since I visted here last time. Of course their price was bit increased, but improved a lot. Now it's good.
