The Story

About This Place

Hwa Pung Jeong operates out of a small dining room on Đường Số 7 in An Khánh, and the compact space is intentional — tables fill quickly, and reservations are strongly advised before arrival. The Korean host works the floor personally, arriving at tables without prompting to offer additional banchan, a gesture that regulars cite as the clearest difference between this restaurant and Korean options scattered across Districts 1 and 2. The side dish spread earns consistent mention in reviews: more varieties than comparable spots in the area, and every one carefully prepared rather than treated as filler.

The kitchen centers on Korean BBQ, with multiple grilled beef options that draw repeat orders across the table, alongside steamed black pork — a preparation more commonly found in South Korea than on Saigon menus. Kimchi soup appears frequently in reviews from customers who order regularly, functioning less as an afterthought and more as a reliable constant. The meal runs around 500,000 VND per person, a price point that reviewers consistently describe as justified given the main dish quality and the banchan generosity that continues throughout without extra charge.

The intimate room and attentive floor presence create a different dynamic than larger Korean chains or tourist-facing spots elsewhere in Thao Dien. Its address on Đường Số 7 places it in the quieter residential quarter of An Khánh rather than the main commercial corridor, drawing Korean expats, long-term neighborhood residents, and diners who arrive on personal recommendation. With 435 Google reviews averaging 4.2 stars, it holds a steady following built on word of mouth rather than visibility.

I was recommended this place by a friend. We tried grilled beef and steamed black pork ( a popular dish from S-Korea). The food were so good, their panchan is also my favorite compared to other Korean restaurant around D1, D2 - not too many but delicious. The staffs were friendly. Would love to come here often
