Love the new vibe and set-up of the bar with great music! The cocktails are amazing (whisky sour & Moscow mule) with also some non-alcoholic options. Service is very fast

Extraordinary (cafe/wine bar) - Wine bar in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City

About This Place
Extraordinary operates on a premise few Thao Dien venues manage cleanly: a serious daytime café that transitions, without any awkwardness, into a bar worth staying at past midnight. The Japanese owner runs the floor with evident care — asking about oat milk preferences, calibrating sweetness to order, making guests feel attended to rather than processed. That attentiveness carries through to the matcha latte, which has developed a reputation as the best in the district and draws repeat visitors specifically for it.
The space is Bauhaus-inspired and deliberately minimal — clean lines, considered objects, no visual clutter. It could read as cold, but the scale and the music prevent that. By night, the character shifts perceptibly. Natural wines and Japanese spirits anchor the drinks list; sake sits alongside whisky sours and Moscow mules, with non-alcoholic options available throughout. The espresso tonic, built from local Vietnamese coffee and a quality imported tonic, carries an unexpected spicy note that sets it apart from the standard café formula.
What makes the dual identity work is that neither half feels like an afterthought. Daytime service reflects genuine sourcing decisions; the evening bar operates with the same conviction. Thao Dien has no shortage of wine bars or coffee spots — venues that execute both with this consistency are considerably scarcer. The crowd reflects that range: matcha regulars who arrive in the morning and settle in, and evening drinkers who open a bottle of natural wine and find little reason to leave. Open until 1 AM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 39 Nguyễn Cừ.
Reviews
We love the interior design and music here. The houjicha latte is decent, but the matcha latte is disappointing for the price, quite overpriced to be honest. All we can taste is milk, with only a slight hint of matcha. However, the bartender and waiter are friendly and helpful. Not the spot for true matcha lovers tho.
We visited Extraordinary for the matcha latte, and it did not disappoint! The flavor was rich and well-balanced, making it a great choice for matcha lovers. The owner, who is Japanese, was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall experience. It’s a cozy spot that I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good cup of matcha!
The best (if not the best) place to savour a decent cup of matcha in the Thao Dien area. Somehow, the minimalist space with Bauhaus-inspired design brought a sense of comfort, even though this is not my preferred interior style. The Japanese owner was incredibly attentive, during the ordering process, ensuring I received a matcha latte tailored to my preferences. She kindly asked if I wanted to swap the regular milk for oat milk and inquired about my desired sweetness level. In addition to matcha, they have a decent selection of alcoholic drinks, although I have not had the chance to try them yet. That is something for next time and many times after. The only drawback is that they do not open until around 1 PM, which is a bit of a bummer for those of us who crave matcha in the mornings.
Hipster matcha cafe in Thao Dien with quality matcha lattes, turns into a natural wines and Japanese spirits bar at night. Super cozy space with tasteful decor. Fun company, amazing wines to taste. You will not want to leave this place.
