CieL Dining - Restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
CieL — French for 'sky' — holds a Michelin star and draws comparisons to Gia in Hanoi for the way it builds layered, sequential flavors across a progression of 10-plus courses, including amuse bouche. The menu fuses French technique with Vietnamese ingredients and Chinese elements, with the seafood courses consistently drawing the strongest praise from diners who have covered the Michelin circuit across Vietnam.
Counter seating is the defining choice: positioned directly facing the kitchen, guests watch the team assemble each plate in real time, which gives the meal a theatrical quality without the noise. Service runs in fluent English, with staff walking through each course's ingredients and preparation at the pace of the meal rather than on cue.
The tasting menu opens at 3.6 million VND per person; wine pairing begins at 1.8 million. Prices rose roughly 20% after the Michelin recognition, a detail several reviewers noted without much complaint given the execution. The address on Đường Số 50 in Thảo Điền is not straightforward from the street — the entrance requires navigation — which filters the crowd toward committed diners rather than walk-ins.
Dinner service runs Tuesday through Sunday from 5:30 PM; the restaurant is dark on Mondays. Among Thao Dien's broader dining landscape of casual all-day cafes and neighborhood bistros, CieL operates on a distinct register, organized entirely around a long, paced tasting experience rather than à la carte ordering. It attracts food-focused travelers alongside local diners marking significant evenings. Reservations book out; planning ahead is required.
Reviews
There are 9 restaurants which have Michelin 1 star in Vietnam. And I have visited 8 restaurants. The only 1 star restaurant that I have not visited is the one in Đà Nẵng City. In my taste, this restaurant ranks among top 3 for sure. They have the delicate layers of the taste. I felt the similar layers of the taste at Gia Restaurant at HaNoi. I found out that the chefs are friends to each other. The way into the restaurant is not easy to find, or I missed the sign out of the valley. But luckily there was a one lady standing at the valley to guide the customers. All of the workers are so kind, of course. The doneness of the foods was excellent, especially I liked the Fish Maw, Kailaan with FoieGras and Mallard steak. Others are also great. The server explained that this Fish Maw is the signature dish in Ciel. When I tasted it, I did not know how special it was. But later I visited a Chinese restaurant which has also a Michelin Star, I could verify Ciel's Fish Maw. Yep, it is a signature dish there. You will enjoy to be here.
Absolutely delicious! I’m glad I decided to dine at CieL the food was amazing! We sat at the counter and were able to see everything prepared in front of us. The menu incorporated Vietnamese fine dining with elements of French and Chinese cuisine. All the ingredients tasted so fresh. Big shoutout to the chef and his talented team for making it such a unique experience.
Great experience! Highly recommended Michelin experience in Vietnam. Reservations were easy and smooth. We chose to sit at the counter to enjoy the team working on the dishes. Food were plenty and each dish was tasty and beautiful. Wine selection was good. Service was perfect!!
Beautiful location and setup combining counter dining and style. The big team worked pretty harmonious - nice to watch. A lot to experience and taste. Absolutely enjoyable. [Visited in October 2025, restaurant had 1 Michelin star at that time]
