Extremely friendly staff who were patient with us as we didn't know the local language! 10/10! Burnt Basque Cheesecake was to die for!

Cafe luia Thảo Điền - Coffee shop in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Cafe Luia sits on Ngô Quang Huy, a relatively calm street in Thảo Điền removed from the busier café corridors along Xuân Thủy and Quốc Hương. The 4.2 rating across 145 Google reviews points to a place that earns repeat visits from locals rather than drawing foot traffic through novelty or social-media spectacle. Hours run 8 AM to 9:30 PM every day of the week — a longer window than many neighborhood spots in the area — which makes it practical for early risers and for those who want to stay into the evening without being rushed out. The consistent schedule across all seven days suggests reliable operations, which matters in a neighborhood where smaller independent cafes sometimes keep unpredictable hours. Without a headline concept or a signature dish generating buzz, the café appears to hold its position through straightforward execution: coffee reliable enough that 145 people bothered to leave a review averaging above four stars. For residents in the surrounding lanes of Thảo Điền, it fills the space between the design-forward cafes on the main strips and the utilitarian grab-and-go options near the local market. The Ngô Quang Huy address puts it squarely within the walkable residential core of the neighborhood, drawing a steady mix of remote workers and locals over tourists making the rounds of Thao Dien's more photographed destinations.
Reviews
All other customers in the cafe were there for socials - instagrammers, models and content creators. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking to enjoy a cuppa, chill/relax.
Thought it s more an instagram checkin, but food turned out good. Nice presentation, well combination of taste, a bit creamy but still ok. Salmon is super. Nice seating outside with fan. Drink is so so. Design is white & chic mordern style with a clean look.
The place looks nice at first and it is but there are a lot of improvements that can be made. First, there is no security or parking space. The staff from the restaurant had to come out and help us put the scooter on to the small pavement right in front of the restaurant. You can't just drive it up either because it's slippery even on a sunny day. This place used to be Marcel's breakfast place and they were great with that. I feel bad for the staff having to come out to help. Second, the bagel sandwiches are not actually bagels but Vietnamese banh mi shaped as a bagel. It's not like New York Bagel on Xuan Thuy street. Although they do have actual bagels but it's for toppings only like cream cheese and such. I tried their chamomile tea... Too sweet and too much stuff in it. The Eggslut "Bagel" 🥯, again, not a real bagel was okay. The overall flavor didn't quite get there. They added a spicy sauce that is like a cheap spicy sauce. I think it's Chin-Su or one of the Vietnamese local brands. It's like 80% there. I know how it can be better if they asked me. Lastly, the chairs with onky 3 legs are not safe. I leaned over slightly on one side and almost fell over. If I was sitting outside on the pebbles, that'd have been trouble. Would I come back? Maybe.
3.6 rounded up to 4! A very cute ‘hidden gem’ in Thao Dien. Spotted it as I was walking around the neighborhood. Came in alone at 9 AM and there were already teens and college students chilling and taking cute pics. The best thing about this place is the interior design. Whoever designed it has a good sense of aesthetics that suit today’s age of social media. Servers were nice, warm, and speedy! Food is OK but the flavours aren’t what I was expecting hahahah. Let me explain: - Volcano Cake… I was expecting a more ‘dense’ consistency. But the cake was ‘brittle’ and tasted bland. The cream was OK tho - Maple Latte… the coffee is strong which is nice. But I could barely taste any maple in it All in all, was an OK experience! I will not be purposively making my way to this place but if I’m bored and in need of a change of scenery, I wouldnt mind coming in
