Sophia Apartment offers modern, clean, and well-equipped rooms in a peaceful pocket of Thảo Điền. The neighbourhood feels safe, quiet, and distinctly local — perfect for travellers who want a break from downtown noise. While I found the calm atmosphere refreshing, some guests may find it a little too quiet or slightly removed from the main attractions. I didn’t meet Sophia, the owner, but her manager, Ms. Lê, was friendly and professional. We communicated mostly via WhatsApp. Her English was good, and she handled check-in smoothly — though her manner leaned practical rather than warm, which suited me fine. Rooms are accessible only by stairs. Travellers with large or heavy luggage should be aware that there is no lift. I stayed in a King Room with Balcony (33 sqm). The room is bright, clean, and sensibly furnished. While simple, it feels airy and functional. Climate Control: The room has a reliable split-unit air conditioner plus a Senko standing fan, great for those who prefer natural ventilation. Storage: Instead of a wardrobe, there’s a minimalist white clothing rack. Light packers will find this sufficient, but long-stay guests may find the lack of closed storage limiting. A full-sized two-door refrigerator is a welcome surprise for a guesthouse room, perfect for storing groceries or take-away meals. A metallic electric kettle is provided for making tea or coffee. Each day, housekeeping left two complimentary Dasani 350 ml water bottles — a small but thoughtful gesture. A wall-mounted flat-screen TV with access to streaming apps offers decent entertainment. There’s a small round table, fine for light laptop work, though digital nomads might miss a proper desk. I requested an extra table from Ms. Lê, and she happily arranged one for me — a nice example of her flexibility. The ensuite bathroom feels new and well-designed, with neutral grey tiles from floor to ceiling. It features a glass-enclosed shower, wall-mounted sink, and a mirror cabinet for toiletries. The electric water heater provides consistent hot water — reliable and easy to operate. My favourite feature was the private balcony. It offered open views of the surrounding low-rise neighbourhood — ideal for morning coffee or watching Saigon’s sunset glow. Noise levels were mostly low, thanks to the quiet street. However, the shared laundry area was located just outside my door, and some guests used the washing machine late into the night — a minor annoyance. The complimentary self-service laundry is a convenient perk but could be better managed. In theory, it’s available from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., but I often found it occupied with hotel linens. Ms. Lê quickly arranged for housekeeping to clear it when I asked, though occasional late-night use by other guests disrupted the peace. Host Sophia is lovely and genuinely cares about making the stay enjoyable. I even received laundry service at no extra charge, which was a wonderful gesture. However, I can’t recommend the standard double room, which, despite being reserved here, was actually in the neighboring building called An Apartments. The air conditioner blew directly onto the bed, and the room lacked fully darkening blinds. However, other rooms in this building might be better. The room with two large beds, on the other hand, was fantastic, with no issues at all. The area is incredibly peaceful, but almost too much so, as everything is quite far away. A big plus is the excellent café right across the street, offering great coffee at very affordable prices.
I had a great stay at Sophia Apartment. The location is very quiet, making it the perfect place to relax after a busy day. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were always friendly, welcoming, and happy to help. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely come back. Highly recommended!
I enjoy being close to the Saigon River and in a local neighborhood. The manager is great, she tries to make everything right and is flexible and kind. Many cafes and restaurants nearby. Several vegetarian. Well furnished.
Simple rooms in a good location surrounded by cafes. Avoid the large rooms at the front side - they let in quite a lot of traffic noise. The rooms in the back are smaller but more pleasant overall because of the layout and calm atmosphere. The owner is a practical person. Not unpleasant, but no great hospitality skills either. Not suitable for digital nomads, there aren't any desks in the rooms.
