The Story

About This Place

The Plate sits inside The Bloq on Trần Ngọc Diện, a mixed-use development that combines retail and dining in one walkable block. The restaurant is small, and while it runs quiet during the day, evenings shift the energy considerably — the surrounding complex fills in, and the Korean fried chicken starts moving.

The fried chicken is the consistent throughline across reviews. The half-and-half order — soy garlic on one side, sweet spicy on the other — lets first-timers cover the menu's two main flavor directions in a single serving. Cheese sauce chicken and tobokki are the other dishes that come up repeatedly, and the peach tea is a reliable finish. Korean diaspora customers have described the cooking as close enough to home-style to trigger genuine nostalgia, which is a harder standard to clear than simply being Korean-influenced.

Pricing lands at the higher end for Thao Dien casual dining — one meal for two with photos posted in a review came to around 450,000 VND. That positions it above street-food and banh mi tier, roughly in line with other sit-down Korean spots competing for the expat and Korean resident market in the neighborhood. Delivery exists, but the fried chicken loses texture in transit; the dine-in experience is the more reliable one.

Within Thao Dien's Korean options, The Plate's placement inside The Bloq creates a social context that standalone restaurants on surrounding streets don't naturally have. The complex offers shopping and other dining before or after, which makes it a more natural destination for a weekend group evening than a single-purpose dinner stop.
