A really nice place with good food, atmosphere, different areas to sit, upstairs too. However their ordering system leaves a lot to be desired. You have to order and pay first at the counter.. that's ok but if you want something else.. coffee, dessert another drink you have to return to the counter to order and pay, sometimes with a queue...kinda spoils the ambience if you are dining with a friend/partner.The wait staff only deliver your order...do they think you are going to run off without paying... very strange and disappointing system.

The Joi Factory Thảo Điền - Bistro in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
The Joi Factory occupies a two-floor space on a Nguyễn Trãi alley in District 1, drawing a mix of expats, remote workers, and locals who eat plant-based without requiring the menu to feel medicinal. The kitchen leans Vietnamese-inflected: pho with clean, fragrant broth; bún bì chả giò plated with care; and broken rice that holds its own against the district's conventional cơm tấm spots. Western options — pesto pasta, spring rolls — use fresh, simple ingredients rather than processed substitutes, which keeps the food honest.
Drinks are an equal draw. The iced avocado coffee layers richness and bitterness in a ratio that makes it easy to stay for a second round, and the jasmine tea with coconut juice is a lighter option for afternoons when the Saigon heat makes caffeine impractical. A kombucha selection — including a berry lemonade variant — extends the drinks list into health-conscious territory without feeling prescriptive.
The space is built for staying: multiple seating configurations on the ground floor, a quieter upper level, and a coworking setup that functions without the formality of a membership. Regular events cycle through, shifting the crowd depending on the day — sometimes laptop workers in focused silence, sometimes a gathering organized around a shared cause. The organization behind the cafe openly invests in social and environmental initiatives, which draws a particular kind of regular looking for more from a cafe than a transaction.
Counter ordering — guests pay upfront and must return to the counter for additional items — is a minor friction point noted in reviews. It does not change the overall experience materially, but is worth knowing before settling into a long afternoon. Service is consistently quick and the staff flexible with requests.
Reviews
I ordered Khoai lang Lac Pho Mai Toi, Bun Bi Cha Gio and a Chill Kombucha (Berry Lemonade)…it was delish. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The restaurant itself has a great vibe! Definitely recommended!
If I could give this restaurant 10 stars, I would. Everything is above and beyond - the food is delicious, the service is fast and kind, the ambiance is peaceful and inviting. There is also a coworking space which is a great environment. My only regret is not finding this place sooner!
The most favorite drink here is Jasmine tea with Coconut juice that is very fresh and healthy. The food here is okay with broken rice or pho noodles. Bread sometimes quite dry and so much toppings (for myself) :). Restaurant vibe upstairs is cozy, nice and Staff service is friendly, flexible
Such a cute place! Not only the drinks and the food are delicious, but the place and the atmosphere are lovely, so many good vibes! A must visit when in Saigon!
