The Story

About This Place

Sinhale brings a cuisine almost entirely absent from Ho Chi Minh City's dining scene — Sri Lankan cooking, with its coconut-heavy curries, aromatic rice dishes, and distinct spice profile that differs from the South and Southeast Asian food expats typically encounter in Thao Dien. The 4.9 rating across 92 Google reviews places it among the highest-rated restaurants in the neighborhood, a signal that a dedicated crowd has found and returned to it.

The venue operates exclusively as a dinner destination, opening at 4:30 PM every day except Monday. On Fridays and Saturdays it runs until 11:30 PM and midnight respectively — later than most sit-down restaurants in the area, which quietly closes it out as an option for those arriving after a full evening elsewhere. The address on Võ Trường Toản sits within Thảo Điền ward's quieter residential grid, away from the main Xuân Thủy strip.

Thao Dien's restaurant scene skews heavily toward Vietnamese-friendly Western fare, Japanese, and pan-Asian concepts. A Sri Lankan restaurant with consistent reviews pulling near-perfect scores occupies a genuinely different position in that landscape. The evening-only format, combined with weekend hours that extend well past 11 PM, positions Sinhale as a dinner destination rather than a casual drop-in — the kind of place regulars plan around rather than stumble into.

Amazing authentic Sri Lankan food in Saigon! Who would have thought you can get legit hoppers in Vietnam. The menu here is extensive and has all of the classic items + specialities. Definitely the best curry in Saigon and I have really been searching for decent curry. Staff are super nice and very accommodating. Awesome to see Sri Lankan community here. Highly recommend checking out.

I highly recommend tasting the yummiest Sri Lankan authentic egg hoppers. They also offer other authentic Sri Lankan dishes such as Kottu Roti, Devilled Chicken, Black Pork Curry, Dhal Curry, and Fresh Pol Sambol (scraped coconut salad), along with many other options suitable for vegetarians as well. Fresh and well-priced.

I accidentally found out about this restaurant and was simply delighted. Having lived in Colombo for a long time, I fell in love with Sri Lankan cuisine, and in this restaurant it is better and tastier than in Sri Lanka itself. The products are of excellent quality, very authentically prepared. The portions are huge, for one person one dish is a lot, even if you are hungry. We took kottu with meat and deviled chicken, kottu is crumbly, the sauce is very hot and rich in spices. Chicken in sauce is similar to sweet and sour chicken, but with authentic spices. The rotti pies surprised me, they are usually prepared in advance, but here they are prepared for you and it is a fresh fried pie. I was very happy to find such delicious food so far from Sri Lanka.
