Satsuma House - Restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Satsuma House sits at 28b Nguyễn Văn Hưởng in Thao Dien, distinguished by a pool terrace and open-air layout that most restaurants and bars in the neighborhood don't offer. The kitchen runs from 8am through 11:30pm six days a week—closed Mondays—spanning family breakfasts in the morning through cocktail events well into the night, making it one of the more genuinely full-day addresses in the area.
Morning service centers on dishes like avocado pancakes, salmon salad, and the matcha magic latte; the latte draws specific mentions across multiple reviews. As the day progresses, the terrace catches a reliable evening breeze, the energy shifts, and the signature burger and mushroom salad take prominence on the table. Themed events run occasionally and consistently draw strong responses, though service volume during those sessions can stretch response times.
The space accommodates dogs, uses bilingual Vietnamese-English menus, and can combine tables for larger groups. A staff member named Quang is cited by name across multiple reviews for photograph assistance and proactive recommendations. At 4.7 stars from 470 Google reviews, the consistency rating is high for the area; a small number of accounts report cold dishes and rushed table management during peak service, suggesting occasional strain when event and dining operations overlap.
For the neighborhood's international and local mix of residents and visitors, this address covers more ground than most single venues: brunch, a working pool setting, late-night bar service, and event programming all from the same terrace on Nguyễn Văn Hưởng.
Reviews
Unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing. The dishes arrived cold, and the steak, sadly, lacked seasoning and was unpleasantly tough. Portions were surprisingly small. What troubled me most was the service: the manager interrupted our conversation to rush us into ordering, then disappeared entirely. When we later reached out to address these concerns online, there was no real response at all.
I love how they designed their place and especially their food are amazing and the vibe here is really nice because like at night the wind just blows here and you can relax and chill and it’s a really amazing vibe. We really enjoy eating here. We will come again.
One of the best location for brunch and dinner I have seen in Asia after travelling from 2+ years. It absolutely blew my mind. They do themed events every so often and they always over-deliver. I recommend the mushroom salad.
Our family had breakfast here and it was honestly some of the best food we ever had. The service very friendly although a little slow (I think an event was starting at the time we sat down which might be the reason) but it was so so worth it. Highly recommended.
