The Story

About This Place

Phatcat Kitchen occupies a low-key spot on Nguyễn Bá Huân that has become a reliable address for the expat and local crowd when the craving for American comfort food takes hold. The menu reads like a Midwest diner menu transplanted to Thao Dien: ground beef patties loaded with sautéed onions and bacon, a buttermilk fried chicken thigh on a sesame bun, hotdogs dressed with chili con carne, and a poutine program substantial enough to anchor its own section.

The Phatcat Burger is the reference point — beef patty, cheese, bacon-sautéed onions, tomato, lettuce — and the menu fans outward from there. The Chili Cheese Burger adds a ladle of chili con carne to the stack; the Hawaiian swaps in pineapple and extra bacon; the Phatphuc doubles the patty for larger appetites. The fries deserve equal attention: Poutine Classic arrives smothered in beef gravy with cheese curd, Bacon Cheese Fries layer on garlic mayo, and Nachos Phatcat flips the format entirely with Asian-style fried chips, melted cheese, chili, and salsa — a hybrid that sits comfortably on a menu otherwise rooted in North American tradition.

What distinguishes it within Thao Dien's crowded Western-casual segment is this depth on the fries and sides side of the menu. Combo deals bundling burgers, fries, and wings at accessible price points draw the after-work crowd from nearby offices as well as families from the surrounding residential streets. With consistent hours every day from 11 AM to 9:50 PM and a 4.6-star average held across 563 Google reviews, the kitchen has positioned itself as a neighborhood staple — the kind of place regulars return to for a specific craving rather than a special occasion.

Meh. Mediocre burger with American cheese. I'll go to Rabbit Hole next time I'm in the mood for a burger. I had the Hawaiian burger. My friend had the Phatcat burger. I had an ordered appetizer of fake crab cream cheese stuffed fried wonton. It was hot oil on the outside and cool in the center. I wouldn't get again. Ambiance was pleasant, but it pretty empty on a Monday night. They seem to do a good business with Grab food delivery. I think there are better choices out there. I won't be returning.

I tried Combo 1 (burger, fries, and chicken wings), and it was the best meal so far! Plus, they have generous servings. I’ll definitely go back!

A very cute restaurant, super quiet and friendly staff. Ordered 2 burgers, egg bacon and buttermilk ones. They were massive and tasty. Their fries were crispy and well seasoned with salt
