METTA Vegetarian Restaurant - Vegan restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
METTA Vegetarian occupies a quietly distinctive corner of Bình Trưng, accessed from either side of the building and furnished in a way that feels closer to a garden house than a restaurant. Low wooden tables and chairs, concentrated yellow lighting, and walls dressed in vintage Vietnamese motifs give the space an antique warmth that stands apart from the glass-and-concrete cafes that dominate the wider Thao Dien strip. The outdoor sections are framed by dense greenery, and on a weekday the ambient music and open-air setting make it one of the more genuinely restful lunch spots in the district.
The kitchen leans into traditional Vietnamese vegetarian cooking, using egg and dairy in some preparations, so it serves a lacto-ovo vegetarian menu rather than a strictly vegan one. Among the dishes that keep regulars returning, the bánh hỏi cuốn lá lốt — thin rice vermicelli bundles wrapped in betel leaf — draws consistent praise for its presentation and balance of flavors. The cheese bread is an outlier on an otherwise Vietnamese-leaning menu, but it has built its own following. Drinks, both fruit-based and blended, are considered a strength alongside the food.
Kitchen times are notably fast for the volume: tables of five have reported full orders arriving within five to seven minutes. Pricing sits at the affordable end for a sit-down restaurant in the area, with portions described as reasonable. On full moon days and the first of the lunar calendar, the restaurant draws larger crowds for traditional vegetarian observance meals; pre-booking and pre-ordering time-intensive dishes is advisable on those dates. METTA has branches in the CBD for those closer to the center, but the District 2 location offers the more atmospheric setting.
Reviews
Food is good for vietnamese taste, affordable price. Atmosphere is chill with many green areas. Service is so so. Wi come back again :)
A decent veg resto with open ended space: you can access the place by either sides of the house as they both facing the roads. The place is airy and spacious without air conditioning, decorated in vintage style with low table and chairs. Those may look cute however quite difficult for diners to eat as they have to lower their back and shoulders a bit. Yellow lighting concentrated over dining table which makes the overall atmosphere warm, cozy, and antique. Foods are the highlight. Taste is good, wide variety and options are healthy. The resto focus on real fresh veg choices of ingredients over fake-proteins which is good. Staffs are eager and nice. However skills can be improved. Tables should have ready tissue and utensils so customers can use at their convenience. Overall, Nice place for a healthy and delicious meals!
Decent. Our table ordered a few different juices and each come at vastly different times 😅 the food itself was ok, but also nothing amazing. The restaurant had the typical traditional Vietnamese decor and is clean.
A quiet restaurant at a quiet place in D2. I ate here many times, the menu didn’t change in a year but it’s good once in a while to comeback. The atmosphere is good & the food is delicious too. I especially like the roll (bánh hỏi cuốn lá lốt), the cheese bread is good too. Overall, it’s a good & reasonable vegetarian restaurant!
