The Story

About This Place

Thao Dien's dining scene skews heavily toward brunch-at-noon Western cafes and evening cocktail spots, which makes Dieu Thien Vegetarian Restaurant's 6 AM opening genuinely useful rather than merely notable. The kitchen runs on the chay tradition — Buddhist-style plant-based cooking that has fed Vietnamese families for generations — and the doors are open every day of the week, no exceptions. A 4.5-star average across 72 Google reviews signals consistent execution rather than occasional brilliance, the kind of reliability that builds a loyal morning crowd of locals heading to work and residents managing dietary restrictions in a neighborhood where vegan options are thin on the ground. The An Phú An Khánh address on Trần Lựu puts it slightly off the main Thao Dien restaurant strip, which keeps the atmosphere low-key and the clientele neighborhood-focused rather than tourist-facing. For anyone living or working in the area who eats plant-based, the combination of early hours, daily availability, and a track record that holds up across dozens of reviews makes this a genuinely practical anchor in the local food routine — not a special-occasion destination, but the kind of place that earns its place by simply being open and good when it matters.

I have been trying vegetarian restaurants ("chay") in Ho Chi Minh for a month now, but this one is without a doubt the best of them all. It offers an all-you-can-eat-style buffet of some of the most tasty and unique vegetarian/vegan dishes, from outrageously good meat substitutes to the most flavourful veggies, with plenty of condiments to choose from. If you feel overwhelmed start with the tomatoe tofu. Or literally with anything that peaks your interests. The food alone would already be enough for this restaurant to be my personal #1, but it also has a wonderful Buddhist theme, super friendly/funny stuff and it costs 50k only - FOR EVERYTHING!! I'm going to invite everyone I know in this town to eat here.

Perhaps I came at an unpopular time (just before 6 pm), but there was only one other customer when I came in (one or two were getting/got take-out) and one couple came in while I ate. This should be much more busy & popular. Especially since this is a 50K/$1.95 buffet. High-mid to large selection size. They cover the food trays (almost no other places do). Each tray was full (I'm not sure how well they refill the trays). The ones that should be warm, were warm or getting warmed up. The tables were clean. The food all tasted fresh. One half was more veggie-heavy and the other was more protein-heavy. I assume this is all vegetarian, I don't know how they make some of the stuff. The stuffed tofu squares are a regular cơm tấm item I get (usually it's stuffed with a meatball). It's one of my favorites, and they had a whole tray of it (vegetarian-style). When the couple came in, the girl specifically checked that tray (maybe it was coincidence, or maybe she knew it's supposed to be that one). There were a couple items that were a little salty (for me, they were good). I did not try everything.

Buffe 50k, a variety of about 15 dishes to choose from, fresh veggies, soup, wooks, stews and scauces, lots of tofu, veggies, beans and dessert soup. Taste delishious, probably a bit salty for some who is sensitive to that, but i am a person who adds salt to anything but here i didnt need to. Clean and tidy space, seats about 30, i would guess. I will be back 🌺

What an excellent find. All you can eat vegan buffet. A huge selection of amazing Vietnamese dishes. A good selection of drinks too. Best thing of all is that it's only 50.000 Dong! A few metres behind Mega Mart in An Phu. Basically a stone's throw away from Thao Dien. All vegan. All cheap. All you can eat. All delicious. All amazing. Open from 6am to 8pm everyday.

One of the best vegetarian food experiences in my life. It’s a buffet, so you can take as much as you want for 50k. Healthy, rich, diverse, delicious and very cheap :)
