Góc nhỏ An yên : Moon & Ember - Family restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Góc nhỏ An yên occupies a low-profile address on Trúc Đường, drawing a deliberately unhurried crowd rather than the brunch-and-social-media set that defines much of Thảo Điền. The interior is spare: clean surfaces, warm light, fragrant candles, and enough silence that a single diner can open a laptop and stay for an hour without feeling out of place. Seating is limited, and on quieter weekdays the room may hold only one table at a time.
The owner cooks to order, and the Vietnamese-Chinese influence runs through the menu without making it a hybrid novelty. The centerpiece is a fresh chicken dish with mild heat — moist, simply seasoned, meant to be eaten with steamed rice. Rice is sold by the bowl at 10,000 VND, portioned small by design: the canh cà chua trứng (tomato egg soup) is generous enough that two average eaters can manage on a single rice portion split between a main and soup. The soup itself leans lighter on salt, which registers as a contrast after the chicken rather than a flaw. The bún rounds out the short menu — reviewers flag it as the dish that shows the most craft, with fresh ingredients and well-calibrated seasoning.
A window view toward the nearby river keeps the air moving and gives the room a sense of openness that the spare décor alone could not. What separates Moon & Ember from comparable spots in the neighborhood is the absence of ambient noise and visual clutter — no background music competing with conversation, no overhead styling. For a stretch of Thảo Điền that closes early on weekends and skews toward evening dining, the 10 AM to 8 PM window six days a week makes this a reliable option for a calm, properly cooked midday meal.
Reviews
