The food is very good and you pay a reasonable price for it. Great idea to provide the sombreros so the customers can take pics with them. I would recommend to make a reservation, as it can get crowded pretty fast. Especially on the weekends.

District Federal - Mexican restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
District Federal is one of those Thao Dien spots where the kitchen's commitment to process shows up clearly on the plate. The corn masa chips are made from scratch daily — dried corn, water, sea salt — and arrive with a faint roasted sweetness that packaged alternatives cannot replicate. The taco fillings follow the same logic: pork carnitas slow-cooked for eight hours until the meat breaks apart with a crispy edge, beef barbacoa brisket chili-crusted and braised to the same clock. The result is a menu that reads as a considered project rather than a crowd-pleasing template.
The room matches the ambition. Murals cover most of the wall space, sombreros sit on standby for table photos, and on weekend evenings the dining room fills quickly enough that a reservation is worth planning ahead for. The playlist leans into the concept without being ironic about it — reviewers consistently mention the music alongside the food when describing what makes the experience feel cohesive.
House-made fermented hot sauces — a chocolate habanero, a lemon ahi, a chipotle smoky — are kept refrigerated until ordered, a detail that signals how seriously the kitchen treats condiments. The margarita program draws comparable attention; multiple reviewers mention working through several rounds over the course of a meal.
District Federal sits in a neighborhood dense with international dining options, most of which hedge toward safe familiarity. This kitchen does not hedge. The eight-hour proteins, scratch masa, and fermented sauces position it in a different register — closer to what someone returning from Mexico City would describe as recognizable than to the Tex-Mex adjacent menus that often pass for Mexican food in Southeast Asia. A kids menu and generous seating capacity make it workable for families, but it is the food-first regulars who keep 1,068 reviews overwhelmingly in the four-and-five-star range.
Reviews
Finally tried District Federal after passing by. The food was great. Loved the corn in the tacos. Menu is nice and fresh. Loved the atmosphere and the service was great too
Pleasantly surprised by the quality and flavor of their tacos. Didn't think I'd find something like this in Vietnam. Highly recommend checking this place out.
The nachos, made from real corn, hold a gentle aroma that lingers before every bite — a warmth that feels almost homemade. They crack softly, releasing that familiar sweetness of roasted corn. The meat melts on the tongue, and the cool, bright toppings tie everything together in balance.
Had quesadillas and tacos, would rate them 3.5/5, quite salty for my tastebud and saucy which made tortillas become too soggy. The place also offers a wide range of sauces (pic in below) to try and they were kept in the fridge until there’s customers so that +1. Love the atmosphere tho, Mexican-theme with amazing art style all over the walls. I was super impressed with this Mexican spot because of the environment of people working here, staffs and kitchen seems to enjoy the work they do and all of them give a very friendly vibes. The place itself its pretty huge, and can be super crowded and lots of local Vietnamese are here!!
