I love Korean food, but I used to have some prejudice against Korean people. Many of the Koreans I met in Saigon seemed rude, arrogant, or disrespectful toward Vietnamese people. However, the owner of this restaurant is different. He is polite, kind, and genuinely friendly to Vietnamese people. He is one of the main reasons I keep coming back to this place. My friends and family have met him as well, and they all speak highly of him. I also absolutely love the food and atmosphere here. If you have any prejudice against Koreans, I encourage you to visit this restaurant. It may change your perspective and give you a wonderful experience.

Đệ Nhất Cơm Canh Thịt Lợn (Thảo Điền) - Restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
Đệ Nhất Cơm Canh Thịt Lợn occupies a specific niche in Thao Dien's dining landscape: honest Vietnamese comfort food at a price point that has nothing to do with the neighborhood's expatriate restaurant strip. The menu centers on three things — grilled chicken, bamboo-tube sticky rice, and crispy fried buns — with nearly every order built around some combination of the three.
The bamboo-tube rice stands out. Glutinous rice infused with pandan leaf is steamed inside natural bamboo tubes, arriving fragrant and slightly caramelized at the edges — a preparation more common in the highlands than on an urban Thủ Đức side street. Paired with a half or whole grilled chicken whose skin crisps properly without drying out the meat, it makes a complete meal. The fried steamed buns — five or ten pieces depending on the combo chosen — add textural contrast: a thin crisp shell giving way to a soft meat filling.
The combo structure is practical and generous. Two-chicken combinations with bamboo rice and buns feed four to six people without complicated ordering. A bottle of the house dipping sauce — chili-forward, balanced with sugar — ties the plate together and can be ordered separately for an extra portion.
The split-service hours (10 AM to 2 PM, 4 PM to 9:30 PM) follow a traditional Vietnamese restaurant rhythm, and the crowd reflects that: local families at lunch, mixed tables in the evening. With 503 reviews averaging 4.6 on Google, the kitchen delivers consistently on its focused menu. In a neighborhood where many restaurants chase expat attention with fusion menus and weekend brunches, this one runs on repeat Vietnamese customers who know exactly what they're coming for.

Reviews
It's Korean restaurant. I had a pork soup at lunch. It's very smooth and kind tastes. With the some toppings, I could change the flavor a bit by bit If you don't have appetite much, then this could be a choice for you. The value for the price is good also. The seating is comfortable enough.
Probably the best pork soup rice I’ve had in Ho Chi Minh City! The broth is rich, fragrant, and super addictive—and even the plain rice is really fragrant too. I got the special pork soup with blood sausage, pork, and pork stomach—very generous portion and really satisfying. It’s only around 180,000–200,000 VND, great value for how filling it is. The steamed dumplings are also really good, but they often sell out on Sundays—so come early!
I had an amazing meal here. The pork soup (Dwaeji-gukbap) was incredibly clean, flavorful, and served piping hot in a traditional stone bowl. What really impressed me was the spread of side dishes—the chives were fresh, and the kimchi had the perfect spicy kick. Pro tip: add the salted shrimp (saeu-jeot) and chives into the soup to customize the flavor to your liking. The portions are generous and the service is quick. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a hearty, authentic Korean meal!
Cơm Canh Lòng Thịt was hearty and comforting. The broth was rich, slightly milky. The pork and intestines were clean, tender, and not overly chewy. Mì Lạnh Trộn Cay was a great contrast. Refreshing, chewy noodles coated in a spicy, tangy sauce. It was flavorful without being overwhelming, and the fresh toppings added a nice crunch. Overall, great flavors, generous portions, and a casual, comfortable vibe. I’d definitely come back to try more dishes. Highly recommend if you’re in Thảo Điền.
