⚠️ WARNING — PLEASE CONSIDER THIS BEFORE DINING HERE 🚨 SCAM WARNING / PRICE WARNING 🚨 I would strongly recommend checking your bill carefully if you decide to eat here. The price charged at checkout was higher than the price displayed on the menu. There was no notice or explanation beforehand that the prices had been increased. We only found out when the bill came, and when we asked about the difference, the staff simply said that the restaurant had increased its prices. What was most disappointing was the attitude. There was no proper apology, no clear explanation, and the staff acted as if it didn’t really matter whether the customer accepted their answer or not. If the restaurant has increased its prices, customers should be informed before ordering, not after the meal when the bill is already presented. Please check the prices carefully and double-check your bill before paying. Based on this experience, I would definitely think twice before coming back. ⛔️

Com Nieu Ca Phao is everything you want a Vietnamese home-cooked meal to be. Tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood in An Phu Ward in District 2, this charming little restaurant is a true hidden gem. It's warm and cozy. I wasn't sure what to expect when my wife and I arrived around 7:30 p.m. on a Saturday night. Surprisingly, there were only two occupied tables when we walked in. By the time we settled in and placed our order, one had already left. For a Saturday evening, it felt unusually quiet—but don't let that discourage you. The menu immediately made us want to order everything. Thankfully, our waitress was incredibly sweet and professional. She happily recommended the restaurant's best-selling dishes, and when we started ordering too much food, she gently suggested that we scale it back. That small gesture spoke volumes. Instead of trying to upsell us, she genuinely wanted us to have the best dining experience possible. Her warmth and attentiveness made the evening even more memorable. The restaurant has a relaxed Northern Vietnamese atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and authentic. From the traditional ceramic bowls and plates to the utensils and decor, every detail creates the feeling of dining in someone's family home rather than a restaurant. Once the food arrived, we knew we were in for something special. Every dish was packed with flavor. Unlike many Southern-style restaurants that lean sweeter, the food here is unapologetically savory, exactly how my wife and I like it. We ordered stir-fried vegetables with garlic, braised mackerel, braised pork belly with shrimp, stir-fried river shrimp with star fruit, and a soup. The standout dish for me was the braised pork belly with shrimp. The pork was melt-in-your-mouth tender, the shrimp perfectly cooked, and the rich braising sauce was absolutely irresistible. The braised mackerel was equally impressive—tender, flavorful, and seasoned just right. The garlic vegetables added freshness to the meal, while the soup was light and comforting, cleansing the palate between bites. A friendly warning: don't come here if you're trying to cut carbs! Every dish begs to be eaten with bowl after bowl of rice, and I happily obliged. My wife and I left already planning our next visit. There were at least ten other dishes on the menu that we wanted to try but simply didn't have room for. Next time, we're bringing friends so we can order even more. Com Nieu Ca Phao is one of those rare places that reminds you why Vietnamese home cooking is so special. If you're visiting Vietnam, new to Vietnamese cuisine, or even a Vietnamese returning home looking for authentic comfort food, I can't recommend this place highly enough. A true hidden gem in An Phu Ward.
I usually avoid writing negative reviews, especially for small businesses—I understand how tough it is to run one. But this experience was poor enough that I feel it’s warranted. I’m writing this while still waiting for our food—at this rate, I’ll probably finish the review before the drinks even show up. First impression: a charming, cozy place that’s clearly popular—it was packed, which set high expectations. Reality: The utensils were dirty right out of the gate. Service was severely understaffed, with just one server covering the entire floor. Food took far too long to arrive. We ordered their best-seller thịt luộc cà pháo, and they brought only the thịt luộc—no cà pháo, no sauces. It took over 35 minutes (and multiple reminders) to finally get everything. Unfortunately, the food itself didn’t make up for the wait—bland and forgettable. For the same price range, places like Cục Gạch, Bụi, or mặn mòi offer far better food, service, and overall experience. Would not recommend.
The food was good but we felt the rice crackers were not the freshest. The service was very attentive. We sat on the upper floor and it was quiet and comfortable.
Food was fine, nothing special. They are still renovating a little but I can see how it'll look pretty good once they're finished with the place. I like the floor tiles, the colors, and the tables/chairs are solid wood. There were, however, a ton of flies and midges who were really not scared of landing in the bowl of hot soup. Some pest control needs to be done, probably around the tiny pond with the fishes in it, to keep the flies away.
