I celebrated my cousin-twice-removed’s birthday at Zumwhere, and it was such a great experience! 🎉✨ Zumwhere has an amazing atmosphere; perfect for relaxing and really enjoying the evening. The food was super tasty and full of flavor. On top of that, the music was on point. They were playing R&B while we were there, and I was vibing the entire time. 🎶 Great food, great music, great energy. Definitely a spot I’d come back to!

ZumWhere Thảo Điền - Restaurant in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City

About This Place
ZumWhere occupies a generous footprint on Trần Ngọc Diện with distinct zones — a covered outdoor section that draws consistent praise for its bohemian feel, and an air-conditioned interior for those who prefer the cool. The kitchen leans modern Japanese, though the menu moves freely across influences: steak is treated as a signature, the beef arriving tender and well-rested, and reviewers lean toward the black pepper sauce over the cheese. Roasted duck comes paired with a dipping sauce that earns its own mentions. The prawn skewer — cherry tomatoes, bacon, wasabi sauce — is the kind of combination that reads oddly on a menu but apparently works.
The room changes register after 8 PM when a DJ takes over, and the energy climbs with it. That same volume is the most consistent criticism in the review pool: loud enough that conversation requires real effort, a trade-off that lands differently depending on the group. Birthday parties and team dinners dominate the tables, which suits the format — the set menus for four cover a lot of ground without forcing too many decisions.
Pricing sits in a register that reads as fair value for the neighborhood's international contingent without tipping into special-occasion territory. Cocktails drew specific notes from reviewers — Japanese-inspired options and aperol-based drinks — alongside a wine and beer list described as solid rather than extensive. Service across the reviews reads as consistently attentive and professional.
For Thao Dien, where the dining options tend to either skew relaxed-casual or price aggressively upward, ZumWhere holds a middle position: serious evening dining with a room that generates its own atmosphere as the night progresses, food that delivers reliably on most of its promises, and a crowd that arrives ready to stay late.
Reviews
The food was decent, nothing exceptional but not bad either. However, the experience was really overshadowed by how loud the music was. It was almost impossible to have a normal conversation without raising our voices, and after a while, it just got frustrating. We got really upset and had to leave early. It’s a shame because the place has potential, but the volume completely killed the vibe. If they could just turn the music down a bit, it would actually be a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal.
The place is quite spacious with clearly separated zones, though the fabric on the chairs looked a bit worn and faded. We went as a group of 3 and ordered most of the restaurant’s signature dishes. The highlight was definitely the steak – the beef was tender and juicy, and my friends personally preferred it with the black pepper sauce over the cheese sauce. The roasted duck was also excellent, especially with the dipping sauce that matched perfectly. For starters, the taro salad was a great choice – crispy fried taro shreds paired with shrimp. The sushi rolls were tasty, but the fried rice wasn’t impressive much, a little bland for my taste. Overall, the display of all the dishes was beautiful. The tiramisu was creamy and quite satisfying.
Zumwhere Thao Dien is a great spot for gatherings and group hangouts. The atmosphere is lively, especially after 8 PM when the DJ starts playing, which adds a fun energy to the space. The food was great, well-seasoned and perfect for sharing. Overall, a solid place to unwind with friends in a vibrant setting.
Difficult to try 9 plates in a single restaurant and enjoy every single one. All the food was well cooked, presented and fresh. Special mention for the prawn skewer with cherry tomatoes, bacon and wasaby sauce, an unusual combination that surprise your taste buds. If you choose the menu for 4 people you will have enough food of great quality ad an affordable price especially if you come from Europe, Australia or USA. Good selection of beers and wines. Staff always professional and gentle. The atmosphere is cozy and modern, good for a celebration, a romantic date or a friend reunion. If you are in district 2 you must try.
