The Story

About This Place

La Focacceria Saigon occupies a compact corner at 31 Thảo Điền, operating as both a sandwich counter and a neighborhood deli where the focaccia is baked in-house and the cold cuts are genuinely Italian. The format is build-your-own: choose a size, select a meat — prosciutto Parma, mortadella, speck, prosciutto cotto — then add roasted cherry tomatoes, bell peppers al forno, rocket, spinach, pesto Genovese, or pesto Rosso. Cheese is available at an extra charge, a detail worth clarifying at the counter before ordering.

The bread draws consistent praise across reviews: a crispy outer crust giving way to a soft, chewy interior that holds its structure under generous toppings. Bell peppers al forno — roasted in a light vinaigrette — add brightness that cuts through the richness of the cured meats. The pesto Rosso has developed its own following. Medium sandwiches run around 159,000 VND, placing it above some nearby alternatives, though reviewers consistently note the ingredient quality justifies the difference.

The grocery side of the operation adds a dimension most competitors lack. Parmigiano, chili pecorino, and other imported Italian staples are stocked for those who want to cook at home, making this something between a deli and a restaurant rather than a purely sit-down affair. A tiramisu is available on the sweet end and has been called out for getting the sweetness balance right.

The physical space is small — a handful of interior seats and pavement tables out front — so midday crowds can make it feel tight. Delivery is offered, and the packaging holds up well according to reviewers who have ordered that way. Staff is consistently described as warm and welcoming. For a neighborhood where Italian dining tends toward full-service restaurants, a dedicated focacceria with actual deli stock is a distinct proposition.

There was a piece of long black hair in my sandwich and the rocket was mainly just stalks. Very disappointing for the price. Staff should be wearing hair nets.

I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a delicious focaccia sandwich! I came last week for lunch by myself and thoroughly enjoyed the food, service, and street dining experience. I ordered a small sandwich with parma ham (prosciutto), bell peppers al forno (roasted bell peppers in a light vinaigrette, and pesto Genovese, and rocket (arugula) on fresh focaccia. Since I ordered a small, I was only able to choose 1 meat or cheese but everything was balanced. The drink I ordered was hibiscus. It was good yet a little different than what I am used to. Maybe it had some sugar in it. It was still refreshing! Looking forward to eating there again!

I ordered the focaccia bread with prosciutto, roasted Cherry tomatoes, pecorino Romano, spinach salad and feta cheese. The focaccia was crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside. They added a good amount of prosciutto Parma which was delicious and thinly sliced; making each bite a perfect one with the citrusy roasted tomatoes and the freshness of the spinach and feta. Oh!, and the tiramisu was amazing! Just the right balance of sweetness! We’re so happy we found this place!

Really nice focacceria in D2, really authentic to the taste for the focaccia I had in italy. The ingredients are legit and good quality. Just two points 1. Was not clear for me as Italian why I could choose only one meat or cheese, if I had to have both I need to pay the extra. Which I don’t mind but little bit weird. Also when the lady asked me if I wanted cheese I thought was part of the composition but I found out it cost at extra. Which was not highlighted by the lady during the order. 2. Calling the fillings antipasti for me was little bit confusing, in italy they are always been called side or fillings, calling it as antipasti throw me little bit off in the beginning Apart from these two points, I really liked the quality of the focaccia, and I would definitely return to try it. P.s. as person who eats a lot, believe me the medium is more than enough, if you are việt the small also is enough. If you are in two, one large two share also okay.
