The Story

About This Place

Bảo Gia Nghi occupies an unassuming shopfront on Quốc Hương, the kind of neighborhood spot that draws regulars on the strength of one thing done consistently well. The hủ tiếu Nam Vang here is the Cambodian-influenced style — a clear, lighter pork bone broth built for morning eating rather than the heavier Chinese-Vietnamese variants found elsewhere in the district. The kitchen runs two formats: wet, served in full broth, and khô, where the noodles are dressed dry with a small bowl of soup alongside. The dry version sits at 55,000 VND and arrives loaded with condiments — chili oil, fresh lemon, and a table's worth of garnishings that let diners tune the bowl to their preference. A step up is the pork rib variation at 65,000 VND: ribs braised until the meat separates cleanly, paired with the shop's spiced sate sauce that carries real heat and fragrance without masking the broth. Prawns are ordered fresh, noticeably plump by local standards.

The interior is brighter and more comfortable than the format implies — air-conditioned, clean throughout including the floor, and able to fit more tables than the narrow street frontage suggests. That said, it fills during peak morning hours and a short wait is common. Operating on a split shift — 6 AM to 1 PM, then 4 to 10 PM — it functions both as a breakfast institution and an evening noodle option, which is rarer than it sounds for a shop at this price point. For a neighborhood where a bowl of pho often creeps past 100,000 VND, two solid noodle formats under 65,000 VND with generous portions makes this a reliable outlier.

It's Hu Tieu restaurant. I visited here at lunch. I had a normal Hu Tieu Nam Vang, then it qas quit normal. The bowl was a bit small? but still ok, then it tasted good anyway. The vegetable coming with the bowl was not so much, but ok. The price was normal as the location, not cheap as Hu Tieu comparing to the one in local. Anyway it was not bad.

Super tasty broth, the seafood is fresh. The space is a bit small though, you might have to wait a few minutes during peak hours.

Hidden in the heart of Thao Dien, this unassuming, no-frills spot serves up an impressive Hi Tieu Nam Vang that’s a delightful discovery for noodle lovers. Think of it as a lighter, fresher take on Singapore’s Bak Chor Mee, but with its own unique twist. The prawns are fresh and plump, adding a burst of flavor that pairs perfectly with a squeeze of lemon and a touch of their aromatic chili oil. The bonus? The air-conditioned setting makes it a comfortable escape from the sweltering HCMC heat. While the hygiene could use a little more attention, it's still a great place for a satisfying meal.

At a time when there are multiple food poisoning outbreaks in the city of HCM, the first thing that strike me was how clean this place is. The stall, seats, even the floor. I personally like Hu Tieu Kho (dry vermicelli) and it tasted good. They give very generous amount of condiments and garnishings. Reasonably priced 55k VND per bowl.
