The Story

About This Place

DODOHAN SAMGYETANG occupies a generously sized dining room in Thao Dien's An Phu residential corridor, drawing families and Korean cuisine regulars who come specifically for the house specialty: samgyetang, the slow-cooked ginseng chicken soup that anchors the entire menu. The broth runs notably thick — glutinous rice disperses into the pot during cooking, producing a denser, more fortifying consistency than the cleaner versions served at Korean chains elsewhere in the city. Chicken arrives tender and well-flavored, the result of long cooking times that pull collagen into the soup. Reviewers single out the baek kimchi — the white, non-fermented, non-spicy variety — as a standout banchan worth ordering on its own; the broader side-dish spread is consistently praised alongside the mains.

The space is clearly designed with families in mind: wide table spacing, a calm atmosphere, and ownership and staff who come across as genuinely attentive. The decor draws repeated mentions across reviews, lending the room a more considered feel than the functional interiors common to casual Korean spots around the city.

Thao Dien has no dense cluster of Korean restaurants, so DODOHAN functions as a destination rather than a drop-in option for most guests. Prices sit above what comparable samgyetang costs in District 7 — a second branch there draws some price-conscious comparisons — but the An Phu location has built a loyal following that returns for the combination of setting, broth quality, and consistent service. Open every day from 9:30 AM to 10 PM, it covers the full meal window, making it equally suited to a weekday lunch for the neighborhood's expat community and a leisurely weekend family dinner.

Ginseng chicken specialty restaurant with a range of options. Chicken was a bit overcooked and the rice was scattered below the pot. As a result the soup was extra thick. The flavor was great though and the banchans were tasty.
